Yep I'm a HL2 Noob
Of course I've known about this game for years, even watched my lil bro play it on Xbox back in the day. I just bought HL2 yesterday and though its OLD I'm digging it. What I dont like though is the fact that Gordon Freeman is basically a ghost. Dude is a complete mute and has no body or form. Is it a lazy graphics thing or is that suppose to be the charm of HL2??? How can Gordan Freeman be rated so highly as a character when he really doesn't even exist within the game?

I got the original Half Life for PS2, I've gotten through about most of it, I stopped after I ran from this giant thing in the parking garage. Used this military lazer target system to take it out. I got to get back to it one day and finish

I finished it this weekm way worth it. as for the strenght of the character, I guess what's really worth it is the strenght of the whole story, that's where it gets me. awesome.

Just because he's mute doesn't mean he's not exist.
Mute main characters always been Valve's characteristics. Look at Portal.

It's definetly not laziness, not from Valve, I believe is so you can incorporate yourself in the character. But yeah, I'd prefer some cutscenes with Gordon talking and actually appearing. And btw, Black Mesa and HL1 change nothing about this topic. Specially Black Mesa which isn't even official.

If a Half Life 3 is made I would prefer one with an actual character, dialog, cutscenes etc...it would only enhance the game imo, a good example would be a game like Fallout 3. The character may be mute but you can choose dialog and see your character in game.

No! The big selling point of the half-life games for me is that control is never taken away from you as you are always in first person perspective and the "cutscenes/dialog" play out around you. No other game series does this and I would be a sad panda if someone at Valve thought your idea was a good one.

Absolutely true. One of the reasons why playing HL1 and HL2 is still a great experience.

Because Gordon Freeman is epic xD.
Gordon Freeman is for PC gaming what Master Chief is for Xbox.
Half-Life set the standards for FPS games in 1998, but if it wasn't for Doom, Half-Life would've never existed.
He is mute because is up to you what to say, you are playing as Gordon Freeman always in first person, and there's no cutscenes that mess with the gameplay.
You will enjoy Half-Life.
and that "Gaben" thing comes from the developer commentary in almost every VALVe game
when Gabe says "i can be reached at gaben@valvesoftware.com", Gabe> Newell.

Gordon Freeman has always disturbed me as a character for as long as this series has existed. Everyone welcomes him to Black Mesa in HL1 and he doesn't say a word. Everyone else yammers on in HL2+eps and not a peep of interest out of Gordon even when Alyx starts liking him and wants to tell him but can't. Maybe he had an undisclosed throat and vocal injury that prevents him from talking. He seems more like serial killer material than hero material to me but the games are still super awesome nonetheless.
