Hi, I'm having exactly the same problem. Audio loops and stuttering about every five seconds, and my pc hardware is also much higher than required. I've spend already a few days googling this, but no result. Have tried to kill background tasks in Windows, disable firewall etc and gave the hl2.exe "high priority" with Windows task manager, but all didn't help.

Interesting though: I read on one site that these problems started occuring after a HL 2 game update a while ago, so perhaps we should install the game's old version from the original CD and NOT download an update to the game via Steam...

I haven't tried giving hl2.exe high priority yet, but I did the rest with no luck. I've heard that your meant to defrag your HDD and game cach but I haven't tried that either, its driving me mental, I'll let you know how it went, thats a good idea to try the old one, thanks for the advise, hope you get it working, let me know how you did it if you do and I'll do the same haha.

Yeah, sure thing, let's keep posted. Btw, defragging your computer is always a good thing to speed programs up, but it won't work for this HL2 problem. Tried it already. ;)

I had the same problem with HL, TF2, and StarCraft 2 until I realized I hadn't updated my mobo drivers since my last hard drive wipe. This fixed every single problem.

Same here - not really hardcore stuttering... or "looping" of audio but little scratches and little "hops" in gameplay....

Have you tried updating your motherboard drivers?

I have excatly the same problem, stuttering in game and audio loop in main menu. But last time, when I played HL 2, it was running smooth with no problem. This must be caused by some updates.
