Downloading and preserving
I have down-loaded HF2 and am very happy with it. Runs great, looks great, etc. My question is this: What happens if my laptop crashes to the point I must reset to original factory condition? Is there a way to preserve HF2 so I don't lose it completely?

Some games have cloud support which means(if enabled) your game saves will be stored on valve's servers.

You could also try backing up onto dvd. You can do that by right clicking on the game in your library and clicking "Backup Game Files"

If you are talking about game saves then idk but Half life 2 will always remain in your steam accounts library. If you switch to another computer then they will email you a secruity code when you try to log in and once you put that in all of your steam account's library will be there including hl2
