Engine Error Help!

While playing Water Hazard I encountered a problem. There's part in the level in which you jump over a tanker on fire, well, when I jump over the water and land the game glitches and crashes. I restarted my computer, I reinstalled HL2, and as soon as I reach that tanker jump, it does the same problem again. I need help. The game closes and a box appears with Engine error: IVP Failed at ...\ivp_utility\ivu_vhash.cxx. 157. What the hell does it all mean!?!?! On a side note: when I start the game it would run normally and as soon as the valve logo appears it minimizes and expands back to normal and it's been doing that lately. Please respond!

Having the same IVP failed error as the OP and it seems that it's a common occurrence. I'm on the Highway 17 level and just cleared the bridge, took down the chopper and was just about to step back through the door at the very start (or end, depending on which way you look at it). I'm assuming that there should be some kind of achievement awarded at this point and it looks like a lot of people experience the error in Water Hazard, just when a 'chieve should pop up. Looks to me like the error is linked to the achievements??

I've tried verifying the game files, but nothing changed. I also tried going back to an earlier quick save, but that didn't work either. Looking around various forums it would seem that there's been no definitive solution yet.

if anyone knows a way to fix it for sure, please let me know. This game is way too good to abandon.

Wait. This is the difference.
Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows Vista Home Premium = Have the same edition.
