do you have to pay to play half life 2?/

I can not get the game to install---it makes me go to the steam and then I get a $9.99 pay screen----do I have to pay to play?
I tried getting support but it says I have to log on---but I am logged on---so there is no support here.

where did you buy the game? was it throught steam? you need a seperate account for steam support, it says so in the front page of it.

Did you buy the game on this account? And, are you sure you ACTUALLY bought it?
In no case would you pay for something, and not actually get anything. Even if you haven't got it; it's likely a glitch, and not "money gubbing".

I think I have the same problem as this guy. I JUST now bought the game and after it downloaded it would not let me play. When I click the "Play" button, I am brought to the Half-life 2 store page, and it asks me to buy the game again.

I ghavr the same problem, i bought hl2 years ago(hardcopy), and had deleted it from my pc. after i had installed the game some days ago, i got the same effect, that i have to buy it.

if you have as you say hard copy (i presume cd's) you can go to games tab (at top next to friends tab) and activate your copy of half life there.
