WTF? HL2 syncing problem!!

I was on the chapter on HL2 "Everyone Follow Freeman" or "Follow Freeman". Anyways, when I started up the game as usual, it asked if it wanted to sync files from the Steam cloud. I clicked yes. And when I booted up the game, I was all the way back on the chapter "Highway 17". WTF!? The newest chapter option in New Game is "Highway 17". What can I do to get back to "Follow Freeman"?
