Low FPS on new iMac
Hi I just got an 27" i7 iMac with the 2GB nVidia 680mx. With 'netgraph 3', and running at 2560x1440, I see well over 200fps most of the time. At a few spots, it drops to 10fps. You might think like when water is present.

Nope, there is one spot I'm just looking at a concrete wall and it drops like this. I tried dropping the res to the lowest setting (1280x720) and knocking down everything under Video/Advanced, but it still dropped to around 10fps in the same spots.

Can anyone suggest any settings tweaks to try?

Regards, Patrick

from over 200fps to around 10fps,
do you have a screenshot of the place you look at to make the fps go that low?

Please provide a screenshot.
If you don't know where to upload it, just email it to me at martin@finnerup.net, and i will create a mirror on my website for it. :)
This does sound pretty wierd.

HI, thanks for looking at this. Here is a shot where everything is fine:

When I stand in place there and rotate to the left a bit to bring the concrete wall into view, look at the fps drop:

EDIT: Note that I can walk up to the wall so only the wall is in view and it's still 10 fps:

These shots are all taken running the game at 2560x1440.

I had this problem as well. Same spot. The frame rate drops when looking in a certain direction in that area.

Seems like bug then. :( Not much you can do about it, except reporting it to valve, that is. :)
Good luck! :)

I was playing the game in the same area and i used mat_wireframe 1 to see what was being rendered ahead, but even if the game still renders stuff you can't see, that's a huge fps drop.
there's nothing i can do to help sorry.

I'm afraid you are right. :( You can always report it, and pray for a brugfix though. :)

I'm experiencing same issue. I have a HD7950 with an i7-3820. Drops drom 200 fps back down to 8 fps in some places. It just randomly becomes unplayable.
