Portal 2 is 50000 years after Portal

The span of time between Portal and Portal 2 is revealed to be at least 50,000 years in The Final Hours of Portal 2.

I think this should have been posted on the Portal 2 group. Anyway, i have the final hours but did not finish reading. I thought portal 2 was 9 years after portal, because of the "9, 9, 9, 9..." that the computer keeps repeating at the beginnig of portal 2.

I agree with Detective Dog. One of the beautiful things about all of Valve's storylines is how vague they can often be. Gives the player something to think about, sparks debate and speculation within the community, gets people talking, and is probably one of the reasons they are so well received and remembered.

I read more of the final hours and indeed there's a reference to portal 2 taking place 50,000 years after portal, but they could have changed that during development. I mean, 50,000 years is a LOT of time.

Portal 2 can't have taken place 50,000 years after Portal... Chell would have died. and the fact that gordon was in stasis doesn't matter he would still have been 40-60 years ago (as in prior to HL2)
