Am I alone on this?
I think that half life 2 is one of the most overrated games of all time.

Here are the things I think are good about it: the pacing, the mood and atmosphere, and the source engine and enemy types.

the things I don't like about the game: The story is a mess because characters are added in and you are mean't to act like they were there in the first game when they weren't, the AI is very stupid, the Vehicle sections are terrible, the Vehicles them selfs control horribly, there are tones of really gimicky things in this game: physics puzzles and the gravity gun and that one section where you have to play catch with the robot, the shooting feels bland and power less, and in many cases the game feels more like a graphics demo rather than a game.

Another thing is when people like watchmojo or ign or anybody like that says positive things about this game is that it uses new technology.

And before you think I'm some sort of console tard who only plays modern games or cod, some of the games i really like came out in 2004: doom3, counter strike source, farcry, hitman contracts....

Yes. You're alone in that. FOR EVEEEEEER

ok, what do you think is so good about half life 2?

I don't know about overrated. At the time it came out it was a slap in the face to everything else and is still a solid shooter today. I don't think the guns feel too weak but the lack of recoil is a bit strange. Some weapons don't feel like they have the punch they deserve like that futuristic assault rifle it's true.

Puzzle and whatnot were exactly what Half Life 1 brought to the FPS genre. Less maze like levels but also more mechanics to make the game a bit mroe cerebral. And a kinda clever approach to storytelling.

Now you might say anything HL2 does the original tried ti in some way but I think HL2 perfected it to a point that's never really been replicated as of yet. And it's a classic because of it.

I don't know see wich characters you're talking about. Only Alyx wasn't in the original and that's because she wasn't born yet. I don't mind the car handling but I think there's way too much driving in the game. Playing catch was pretty fun and cute in my opinion although it might slow down things too much after the first time through.

In conclusion, while it has it's fair share of problems and there's nothing wrong with simply not liking it for one reason or another. I don't think it's overrated. It's a timeless game that packed a punch back then and if it were to come out today it would still kick some major butt.

Yes the first game had puzzles but they were there for a reason, the puzzles in hl2 feel really tacked on.

The characters I'm talking about are kliener and Eli and barny.

What exactly made the puzzle in HL1 more sensible?

These characters were in the first game. Kleiner had a whole section just about him. Eli was a bit more forgetable I guess. Barney offered you a beer you heartless bum. ='(

I think it's you who is forgeting because none of the people in the original half life have any names or character delvelopment over than gordan freeman and the Gman for possibly ermersion
Dr.doomsday device Aug 28 @ 8:56am
Oh and the puzzles are more sensible since you had to turn on the rocket to kill the tentecles, or turning the power off to get to the other side of the corridor because of a few broken cables giving of deadly sparks.

And everything in the first game other than the graphics and sound quality is massively, massively better.

Yeah I'm forgetting about Kleiner giving you the super jump boots and barney having his name his name told in the credits and the damn expansion he starred in. Or is that I'm rememberring it...

Seriously bro, i understand misssing eli becausse he appears once in the corner of a room but come on, denng Kkleiner wa n HhL1 denng the last part of the exists. You know, Xen and the horrible platforming stuff.

EDIT Don't write three separate posts in a row...

Making a makeshift platform to reach too high ground, turning off fire layed by an insane man to trap aliens. I can site random stuff too and it made perfect sense.

The shooting was worse. The story was worse. Rverything else is subject to personal preferences. I mean you might like the indoors industrial laby stuff ion the first one better. I tend to like the post apolaliptic settings of HL2 better but I can't say it's a "better" setting objectively.

Oh, look! It's that time of the month again!

The platform is not that bad and it's not kliener that's just a repeated character model that they used for kliner in the second game.

Now you're just in denial. It is Kleiner. That's a fact weather you like it or not.
Dr.doomsday device Aug 28 @ 9:06am
how is that a fact? where's your evidence

End credits of the first game. Valve naming the characters specifically. Do some research...

It's like sying Luigi didn't exist in Super Mario Bros because his name is nowhere in the actual game. That's nonsense.

oh ok, I don't watch all of the ending credits for anything, other than movies made by marvel.
