Stupidest thing ever

I was browsing the maps folder in Half-Life 2 and I went back and when I went back, my Materials folderer was gone So I verifyed my game it STILL was gone so I tryed createing a foldier called Materials and verifying it but there was nothing in the folder, so I reinstalled my game and IT'S STILL GONE also when I try to launch the game This message pops up "ERROR Tried to add C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life2\hl2\custom\models as a search path Check C:\PROGRAM fILES (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\custom\readme.txt for more info" How Do I get my Materials folder back??

Any data that you don't have more than two copies of is disposable data.
Back yo chit up. Custom folders, files, saves, w/e

I didn't back up my game because I didn't know this whould happen

With Steam Cloud you really shouldn't have to, but anything you add or modify I would back up

Solution

Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Half-Life 2 \ hl2 \ custom \ <create a new folder here> \ models
You can call this new folder whatever you want.

Most of the assets of the game are now stored in several VPK files. You need GCFScape installed to open these files. You can find them here: Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Half-Life 2 \ hl2

You should open only the ones ending in "_dir" Like:
hl2_misc_dir.vpk
hl2_pak_dir.vpk
hl2_textures_dir.vpk

Once you open a VPK you can extract the files inside by draging them to a folder in you hard drive.
