We may as well give up all hope.
Valve just can't make a third Half Life. They're too busy on MP games, they don't care anymore. Anyone still willing to wait another decade? Or do you give up yet? Because I'm starting to grow tired of this nothingness coming from valve on HL3. If they care all too much about MP and coop, they should just make HL3 coop like Portal 2 was, well similar except no puzzle solving and instead something like firefight, or a shorter campaign based on two characters as a spinoff. Imo.

Portal 2 was released 3 years ago. It has singleplayer. I think they still think singleplayer is important. I also doubt they'd abandon their most well-known and highly-regarded franchise.

Also, it hasn't been a decade quite yet. Have you forgotten about Half Life 2 Episode 1 and 2? We still have 3 more years until it's been a decade.

By the way, not ALL of Valve is focused on their multiplayer. They have different teams assigned to different tasks. Some members of Valve are on the TF2 team, some are CS:GO, some are DoTA 2, and undoubtedly some are on the Source Engine 2/Half Life 3 team. And yes, GabeN himself confirmed that Source 2 is a thing Valve has been and is currently working on.

In fact, there was somewhere where a former Valve employee (or maybe current, I forget) said that Valve working on HL3 was "old news." As in, they've been working on it for a while.

One last thing, it was 6 years between Half Life 1 and Half Life 2. It was 4 years between Portal 1 and Portal 2. It was 9 years between TF1 and TF2. It was 7 years between CS:S and CS:GO. Valve takes time with their games. That's why they're all so fantastic.

Thank you sir, for your post, you've somehow managed to lift me up from the depths of giving up. Patience is a Virtue, and I really need to keep it. I haven't forgotten the episodes, :3 but just not including them. Whenever HL3 comes, it'll definitely be before the 2020s...I hope.
Though it would be bad, I would gladly wait till i'm 30 to play Half-Life 3.

That is, if Gabe didn't croak by then.

I will still wait for Half-Life 3. Overall, Half-Life 2 took around 5 years to develop, and it turned out to be a fantastic game.

Like Gabe Newell said, when it has been released (eventually), hopefully, it will have been worth the wait.

chin up, they are silent, yes, and it is frustrating, but I believe creative process is difficult and silence is just one part of it.

Coincident with the Rapture :>
