Which in the case of Plain of Torrment is aether, which there's a ring augment in Devil's Crossing that can help with that and some boots from Homestead faction merchant which have aether and chaos resistance.
You should be happy if enemyes are more than 5 lvls above you in elite. If it makes you die though, you may want to improve the tankiness of your build.
It was already like this in Titan Quest, where bigger monsters would be stronger than the rest by scaling to a higher level above the player.
As long as your build works decently this shouldn't be too much of a problem. Otherwise, you may want to check your gear and try to replace older parts. Resistances and armor go a long way to keeping you alive.
If your damage output is good, this stat will make your life a lot easier.
If he is a caster, ADCTH will not do anything for him. It only works on skills that have a weapon damage component. Of course if he is using ranged weapons then it is useful.
