Biggest Facepalm Moment in Antichamber?
Anyone who plays puzzle games knows how it works. You're overthinking a puzzle and then you finally figure out you were doing it all wrong. When and where was that moment / were those moments for you in Antichamber?

Mine was when I was solving this optional puzzle: clicky

I thought I had to put the red cubes on those little laser thingies. So I was sitting there for half an hour figuring out how to make a 6th red cube, only to find out when I look behind me that the door was already open. Then it hit me. Those red cubes needed to lose contact with the lasers, which I already did. I felt like an idiot and a genius at the same time.

What about you?

Mine wasn't really a specific puzzle; I had already played the old UT3 mod, as well as the old demos before Antichamber was actually released, so I knew how most of the mechanics and such worked already.

Mine was after I had completed it, being the speedrunner that I am, looking up the current record time for the game (which was just over 5 minutes). So my biggest facepalm moment was in realizing just how quickly it could be beaten. (I've since optimized the route along with some other runners, and the current record is 2 minutes 48 seconds[not mine])

Little side-note: If anyone is interested in seeing the speedrun, I keep the Antichamber subreddit updated with the record videos, route walkthroughs (if you want to learn to speedrun it yourself), among other things:

Btw, @Toothless2603, I believe you visited mine and Pallidus's Twitch channels the other day. (I saw your name show up in my IRC as having joined the stream chat)

@Californ1a Yeah, I looked at all the world record speed runs today as I've beaten the entire game just yesterday. I might want to learn how to speed run the game eventually since it looks like a lot of fun, but first I want to solve puzzles that were meant to be solved with less superior guns than I actually solved them with.

Well Pallidus just made a great tutorial for the fastest Any% route. It uses a new glitch ("Lag Glitch" as we've been calling it) we just discovered that allows you to get cubes through the disintegrator field just before you start The Chase (this allows us to skip both yellow and red guns, as well as all the puzzles in The Escape).

I don't suggest learning this route first though, because of the lag glitch which is pretty difficult to learn when to time properly. I'd suggest learning the "Any% Lagless" route first (the old route before we found this glitch). All the tutorials/walkthroughs are listed on that Reddit post I linked above.

Feel free to add me and ask any questions you have. I'm also always in my Twitch chat if you'd rather ask there.

@Californ1a Yeah I've seen the glitch this morning but don't remember what speed run it was. I actually understood immediately what he did when I replayed that particular part of the video a second time. Then a bit later I found the subreddit you were talking about, watched all the world record speed runs, and then saw the tutorial on the lag glitch. Fascinating how lag can do something like that. Not sure if my laptop would be able to handle that though.

It all depends on the size of the cube you try to generate. If you're using a slower machine, then a smaller cube will be able to create enough lag.

Doesn't that make it a less fair speed run? Creating a smaller cube should shave off some seconds right? Or doesn't it even matter?

Yes creating a smaller cube would shave off some time, but it's not as much time as you'd expect. And anyway, I believe most of us have agreed that in order to count toward a new WR run, you have to be able to run the game normally at a stable 60 fps.

hahahaaa I though about that puzzle even before I entered the thread. It was really thinking about the box and there I couldn't figure it out hahaha.

the game makes me feel sick haha don't know why

Ugh, climbing the tower. I spent so long wandering around before I figured that out.

haven't gotten it yet, but already the biggest facepalm moment for me will be finding out how easy it is to get the green gun. i haven't figured it out yet, but apparently you can get it right after the blue gun.
Californ1a Nov 7, 2013 @ 1:07pm
The speedrun is only about 4 minutes, so of course you can get each gun directly after one another if you know which rooms to go to.
