Antichamber

When will Gamepad support be implemented?
Hello,

I hope the author will read this. Can we get some sort of a timing when the Gamepad support will be implemented into the game? I've seen that there is some half-working solution to this but I'd rather wait for a proper implementation.

Thanx

i'm also waiting for this before i buy this game. hope it comes soon.
I wasn't that smart :) I bought the game, not checking about the gamepad support. But it's a game made by one man, it's perfectly understandable that he couldn't have thought of everything :) I keep hearing it's a great game so I hope a proper gamepad support comes soon.
under the pinned documents is how to enable controller support, though its unfinsished. it was stated that because the controls were not totally ready for launch it was removed until it is done and tested then will be readded in via patch. again, in the top pinned discussion the dev explains how to reenable controller support, but it wont be perfect (no walkbinding, very harsh acceleartion on thumbsticks)

no exact date was given and thats to be exspected, Antichamber was a game that wasnt released untill it was ready, im sure the dev will do the same for external controller support. unless its 100% he wont release it, and you cant put a date on that.
Yes, I've seen the pinned documents. As I said in my first post "I've seen that there is some half-working solution to this but I'd rather wait for a proper implementation". I was just asking the developer whose game I've bought as to when can we expect proper gamepad support so that I can properly play the game I've bought. I'm not mad, I'm not being rude and I don't mean to create any kind of pressure. I'd just want to know approximately when should I check for any updates, I'd put some kind of a reminder in my calendar. Or will I get an e-mail from steam notifying me about updates? I'm kinda afraid that I'll completely forget about it :) Too many things to keep in mind. Cheers.

being made by one man is no excuse when its $20. if it was cheaper id be inclined to agree.

I don't think controller support should take too long to implement, once I can get around to it. I need to fix the crashes first. All of the functionality was there, but I need to tune the thumbsticks. I need to find out where that is being handled in the script and refine it to fit the game.

Please be patient. I know that people have issues, and I know people paid money for the game, though I also had a whole lot more stuff to deal with immediately following on from the launch, and was just generally exhausted, as none of this is easy. That makes initial updates slower, but everything moves way faster once I've had time to recover and am back to working at full speed again. Working through burnout / crunch over extended periods of time is only going to make things move slower.

i suspect this isn't the correct prioritization. the gamepad support is keeping out many people of playing your game. the crashes are likely not impacting sales and are corner cases in the engine itself. i'd recommend you make it easy to use controllers in the game and handle the crashes afterwards. it doesn't need to be perfect, but i'm not interested in trying to be immersed in a game experience while jostling around with a keyboard like its 1980.

The game officially supports Keyboard and Mouse only and has no mention of controller support anywhere. I only listed it in the Issues thread so that people knew what the situation was, and could choose to adjust accordingly if they felt like doing so.

The game crashing when using the gun under normal circumstances (e.g. to solve some of the puzzles) is something that affects anyone who is playing the game, that was otherwise working fine for them up to that point. I am receiving far more support emails from people having issues with that than I am about people not being able to play with a controller, that wasn't supported in the first place.

I understand your frustration, and am working on resolving the issue. Please be patient.

You mean you're paying attention to people who bought your game and do not focus on getting more people to buy your game?
That's why I love indie games. :)
Not to bash anyone but why would you want to use a controller as an input type for this game? It's slower, less responsive, and less accurate in every single way/shape/form

edit: @Senen you sound like a douchebag why don't you go make a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game with an extremely small dev team

Read his post again. He was complimenting Alexander for supporting people who bought the game instead of being greedy. Now YOU are the douchebag.

Also, controler support is a good thing for Big Picture, I would love to play some Antichamber on my couch :D

alexander, appreciate your response. in the end, it is your game. i respect this. just making a recommendation of priorities. and i did buy the game to support your effort regardless already. i presume i made the mistake on steam/big picture that all games would be joystick supported (ie, console like experience). it was an incorrect consumer assumption.

for those that don't fully understand the subtlety: controllers provide a set of tradeoffs many are interested in relative to an equivalent but different set of tradeoffs of a keyboard/mouse configuration. the primary goal was to have an experience my wife and i could share on the big screen and in the living room, when i showed her the preview her reaction was 'that looks really amazing and i would really like to play that'. additionally, i have been able to get her to game in this setting but she is not familiar keyboards and mice for gaming.

i, just as a matter of preference after 30+ years of gaming, prefer the console experience to the mouse/keyboard and know many others who feel different.

as a customer i am flattered that alexander took the time to respond, i can't imagine the pressure you are under. look fwd to the updates.

never
Alexander, I really appreciate your response. Being a developer myself, I can imagine the pressure. As I said, I didn't mean to cause more pressure or hurry you. I just wanted to know some approximate timing (really, just that), if you said it would be done in 2017, I'd put it into my reminder and forget about it until it beeps :) But this way, I'm almost sure I'll completely forget that I ever bought this game. Since it's so uncertain, I'll put a reminder to beep, say, sometime in June, I guess till then, gamepad will be supported.

Cheers.
