What am I supposed to be doing?
I don't understand what I'm supposed to do in this game. I walk around and thngs happen but I have no way of knowing if they're good things or bad things because I don't know what the goal is. Also, everything goes dark as soon as I get close to it, like as though I'm carrying around an anti-light-source, and I can't even tell if that's a bug or if it's supposed to be doing that.

Could you provide a video or some pictures of that darkening thing? I don't believe it should be doing that, although it might depend on which area you're in.

As for what you're meant to be doing; you're not supposed to know what to do, the game is built around confusion and exploration. You just need to figure things out on your own via trial and error, or just trying to make any potential progress you see fit. There is an ending, and credits after you reach the ending, although to quote one of the signs; "Life isn't about getting to the end." Just enjoy the experience and try to work out what you need to be doing.

The light thing is like I'm carrying a lantern only the opposite of that. I can see things that are a little way off, but not things right in front of me. This seems to be the case everywhere, although I've only played for a few minutes so I really don't know.

As to the other thing, I'm not confused, I just don't know what to do. I can't tell if anything I do is valuable progress or me failing to do something. There seems to be no feedback as to whether my actions are correct or not. No matter what I do, something happens but I can't tell if it's the right thing or not. What's my goal here? What am I supposed to be trying to do? Without a goal it's just walking around. What's the point?

Same graphic bug for me (everything is black if closer than 1 or 2 meters), on all areas . Only screenshot I could take : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=278422626 (the game crashed when I did it and now it doesn't start anymore). (Linux with AMD Radeon 7990)

Like, I said before, you're not supposed to know what to do, just explore. If you absolutely need a goal, then I'd say just try to complete the map and find all the signs, but there aren't any "goals" in Antichamber.

And about the darkening thing (if it's like the picture that GeroTeX posted), then it shouldn't be doing that. You could try some of the things listed here, even though these are tailored for fixing the game crashing on startup, but there could be some overlap of fixes for that and fixes for this: http://reddit.com/r/antichamber/wiki/startupcrash

So what's the point? You walk around and things happen, but what are you supposed to get out of it?

Gameplay, an experience. There are credits and an ending you can eventually get to once you've explored enough.

I speedrun Antichamber, so you can technically get to the credits in about 2 or 3 minutes if you know exactly what to do, but the point of the game is to try to figure out what to do.

But what's the goal? What are you supposed to be trying to do? How do I access this "experience"? Why should I want to explore? What am I getting out of it?

I have gotten a headache out of it.. Fun though.

To discover the goal for yourself.

By experiencing it for yourself.

Because you can.

What you put into it.

This probably just isn't the game for you. Which is fine, not every game is for everyone.

If you still want to play it, and you really want to be led step-by-step through a game that's based on discovering things for yourself:
Explore to find the blue gun. Use the blue gun to find the green gun. Use the green gun to find the yellow gun. Use the yellow gun to find the red gun. Use the red gun to get to the exit.

I get the distinct impression that you don't understand what I'm asking. I'm not looking for a walkthrough, I'm not having trouble progressing. I'm able to move from one room to the next and things happen, I just don't know whether the things that are happening are moving me toward my goals or away from them or are completely irrelevant.

I feel like I'm someone who can't read and I'm looking at a book for the first time and saying "OK, I see these pages, there are a bunch of them with symbols on, and you can go from one to the next. I'm sure there's some point to this because someone went to the trouble of making this thing, but I'm not getting it." and the answers I'm getting are "It's a story. Just look at the words and go through them from the start to the finish." and I'm just sitting here thinking "It's a bunch of squiggles; Where's the story?"

Do you get what I'm saying here? I can press buttons and make things happen, but there's no exchange of information going on here. I can see no relationship between my actions and the game's responses. I don't understand what's going on.

You're not meant to understand what's going on. This is what everyone is trying to tell you. You are confused, and you're meant to be confused. Antichamber is like a puzzle game where they don't explicitly teach you how to solve the puzzles (It's actually an exploration game, but the puzzle analogy works better). You're meant to be confused, not know what to do or where to go, and you're meant to try to figure things out by trial and error, much like the way a baby first learns to walk. They try to walk one and fail because they aren't mature enough to be able to stabalize themselves yet (you haven't progressed/explored enough to be able to use what you've found), but after they try to stand/walk enough times then they will eventually get it (once you've explored/progressed enough, then you'll eventually start to understand how some things work, but not all of them).

Basically, just try to get to as many rooms as you possibly can, and eventually you'll find progression via trial and error.

You just have to play and let the game being played, read the signs and as you play you will understand what the mean and also (in my opinion) how life works. Well you won´t really "learn" how life "works" but this game teaches you some things about life, that you maybe did not know or even not noticed. I think that the developers have done a pretty good job by doing this "game" (i think it is more kind of a therapy, because if you really get the game and understand what it wants to say its more like a lesson, with some challenging exercises ^^)

Holy ♥♥♥♥, is this a video game or a cult indoctrination?
Californ1a Jun 30 @ 8:31pm
It's no wonder you're so confused; you've only played 6 minutes. Antichamber is a game about taking your time to explore around and figure things out; you'll have to spend quite some more time to even begin to understand how the game works.

That sounds like complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. What's the payoff? Why should I invest my time in this? What am I supposed to get out of it?
