DS Game Frame rate drops when Giants Spawns

I have been playing dont starve a lot lately and noticed that my game lags everytime a giant or something crazy spawns the game just drops in frame rates and just makes in unplayable. I have no issues with this on my much older laptop. Is this anything other people have experienced. I honestly dont like switching to my smaller laptop just to avoid/kill a deerclops or my certain doom due to sanity drops.
