Mod - Dying will not erase your save game
----IMPORTANT NOTICE----

Due to all the flame wars in the comments, I will be permanently deleting this thread after 48 hours from the time of this post. Then I will repost this thread as a new thread.

To all who have been supportive and encouragin, thank you for being awesome gamers :) and to those that have been hating on this mod and saying that it totally breaks the point of the game, I agree with you. It does break the game, and I only intended to post it here to help people who were struggling to learn this game. I myself do not use this mod anymore after learning the ropes, and some of my friends who used to use this mod have stopped using it after being good at the game(better than me, I might add :P)

I will continue to support and update this mod as much as possible.

P.S. Please don't start another flame war. :(

- - - EDIT: Looks like the moderators/admins here deleted the new thread I started and restored this old one which I removed :(

******UPDATED - 12th JUNE******

This mod works for the June 12 update. This is a very rough patch!! Once you die, nothing will happen. The body will be left there. All you have to do is return to the main menu and all will be fine, your saved file will be intact.

Please comment below if you run into any problems. :)

I do not own a PC which runs Linux, so if anyone would like to help me out with making this mod Linux-friendly, comment below or add me :)

For Windows:

Step 1: Download file here: http://wikisend.com/download/186148/gamelogic.lua
Step 2: Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Don't_Starve\data\scripts
Step 3: Copy the downloaded file and paste it in the directory above
Step 4: When the prompt comes up, select Copy & Replace option

For Mac:

Follow the same steps as Windows, but navigate to:

/Users/"USERNAME"/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/dont_starve/dontstarve_steam.app/Contents/data/scripts

Link for the original gamelogic.lua file is here:

DISCLAIMER: I do NOT own Don't Starve or any rights to it. This is purely for the purpose of making it easier to play and less frustrating.

If you like this mod, feel free to share the love :D

Well Im all for people modding games to suit themselves, but essentially being immortal? Kind of defeats the purpose of a survival game doesnt it?
"Don't Starve... unless you want to, thats cool too I guess."
Oh well, to each their own...

No, you'll still die but you can load your last saved game from your last save point. You can also choose to start over (delete the game data, then start new game).

Ultimately, I believe it would make the learning curve easier for beginners :)

And also, it really sucks when you've been playing the game till day 100+ and had a great base and suddenly died by accident. :(

"Oh i died, good thing I saved 5 seconds ago" really isnt the same as dying.
I honestly dont know how youd find any enjoyment in a game in which theres no real tangible threat seeing as you can have infinite attempts at tackling a problem.
And as for beginners? Death is as good a learning tool as anything. Knowledge through failure is a feature built in to these kinds of games, even the unlock and experience system is built around inevitable death.
I just find it counteracts so many of the strengths of the game and game mechanics that youd be playing a much lesser game if you were to play this way.
But hey, just my two cents.

nice work

Given that my last death my only "mistake" was failing to prepare for a combination of events that there was no possible way I could foresee- cheers for allowing people to play in the way THEY choose, thanks.

If people wanna use this mod then great, I think it can be very useful. So well done for making it.

Personally I'm not gonna use it. Yeah it sucks when you die, but I find that to be part of the game/experience. And it motivates me to do even better the next time.

If you quit out of the game when you die then it doesnt clear the data in survival. Mod useless unless you want to cheat adventure mode...

True that :)

Please continue this mod! It would make it much easier to test things out, and make the game less rogue-ish when i'm not in the mood for those interested, like me.
