I have. Why haven't you?
*sips J20 with a confident smile, while eating roast turkey, roast potatoes, steam veg and dipping Yorkshire puddings in tangy gravy*
1) Your mods will be useless and unusuable once an update rolls out. While the game is most likely finished being updated, it sucked for us who bought the game at the start and couldn't keep our mods because Steam would automatically update the game for us. There is no way to rollback, or at least- no way to roll back that is easily found on their forums or through support emails.
1b) Why would anyone support developers who poured so much into mods for their game, but were too stupid to not have all mods break immediately upon updating the game? A developer should support mods when pouring nearly half of their dev time in creating moddability, not forcefully break them with every update. Talk about lack of foresight, and one epic fail...
2) The updates were pretty lame. Maybe if the updates were awesome additions to the game, it would be worth destroying most mods and undoing others while you waited for an update to the mod that might not come. This is not the case. The updates were either unimpressive, or more of the same. How disappointing was it that it turned out the new underground bunny creatures were just Pig-Men with a different skin.
3) No multiplayer, poor on-screen COOP support.
4) Developers who seem to believe it is worthwhile to waste development time and resources to force their playstyle down other's throats. The game had permadeath and deleted your save, but you could (in a very uncomfortable and annoying way) scum-save. It wasn't a friendly or easy way to scum-save. It was simply a way to. They were angered by this, and spend developer resources to try to prevent scum-saving (despite how it wasn't easy to do in the first place) to try and force their playstyle down other people's throats...in a SINGLEPLAYER game. Some developers were actually personally offended when MODS were released that disabled permadeath. Why? This is the whole point of MODS, and it is a singleplayer game. Even more idiotic, is how they are proven to be of the mindset of religious fundamentalists (see: crazy fanatics). They embraced the console that allowed you to cheat and mods that can cheat, but were angered and spent dev resources in an emotional volatile way to prevent one type of cheating? Absolutely insane. Fortunately for the community, the developer in charge allowed the MODS to stay, even though the team was... offended. I'm sorry, but it isn't even something to discuss. The game encourages people to play it the way the developers want. Why needlessly force, nay waste resources programming away, just so your consumers play it "Your way, or no way!"? It is a singleplayer game.
5) This game is pretty awesome, you should buy it because it's an amazing game. Although protesting the irrational fundie developers is something we should all do, not everyone on the team was like this. Besides some of the developers being a bit "touched" and obviously irrational about their permadeath feature, other devs were not irrational. At least some on the team were sane enough to say "Can we at least allow them to MOD however they want?" and pointed out the logical fallacies of other developers on the team. It is a disservice to boycott the entire project due to some of the developers being irrational fundies, especially when it's such a great game with a few sane developers pushing for a better game.
Updates in most moddable games (Skyrim e.g.) disrupt functionality of existing mods. This is SOP.
Lame updates? More like free content. But if you didn't like them, so be it.
Klei has developed several games. Some of their other games are co-op/ multiplayer. This game is single player. You seem to want to shoehorn co-op into a game that was not meant to have it.
Your point #4 is a rant that makes no sense. I mean that sincerly.
You are comparing game devs to religious fanatics... Riiight... I'm just gonna, like, go now, ok?
1) Mods will not be useless if the game is updated by the developers. Once the creator of the mod updates his/her mod, the mod will work as normal.
2) All updates we have had so far were free, emphasis on 'free'. The developers didn't have to release it. They got their money when we bought their game, so why would they care? Because they care so passionately about their game that's why. Anything they releases was an improvement on an already good game.
3) This has already been discussed. Please see the post I made in your other thread before I locked it.
4) To be honest I don't understand any of this. Sorry.
5) I agree this game is awesome. See the top post for the reasons why it is such a good game.
Awesome! Welcome to the community :)
Happy hunting!
I can't make any sense of this, sorry. I haven't read anywhere that anyone even the developers are against mods or 'scum saving'. The developers were the ones to allow players to add their created mods to the game. It doesn't affect anyone else so you can do what ever you wanted. If joker wants to 'scum save' (btw I hate this term) he can. Nobody is saying he can't.
If the developers or moderators were against mods then why are there multiplayer mods. If we were so against it surely we wouldn't allow multiplayer mods in the workshop. Sure some mods make the game seriously easy, and some of use can call a person a cheater if they used them. But that won't make sense either. Because again what ever that person does to his/her game won't have any bearing on how we play. Unless they brag about getting to day 1000 and we find out he/she was using no death mods or something, we could then call that person a cheater. Only in that situation.
The reason mods are so easy to install, is because the developers have made it easy. I can't understand why anyone would say the developers are against mods? Please clarify.
I don't know Joker's sources, so I assumed he posted a legitmate complaint. If it's baseless, that's one thing. However, people were bashing him without any reply to the content of his argument. _IF_ developers make it harder to mod, that sucks. Like I said in my post, the shoe has dropped. Modding is in full effect. So the whole argument is somewhat mooted. However, his original point about devs going after mods they didn't approve is valid. I haven't seen anyone make any counter-argument to that point yet.
Make sense to you?
Can you please provide me with evidence where a developer has 'gone after a mod they did not approve of'. A link would be great. I'll let the community decide whether these mods were justly disapproved. Thanks.
Edit: only then can anyone give you a counter argument.
