Well, if your into looking up spoilers...
I would recommend looking up "William Carter" on the wiki.
It explains various characters at once
yarheeguy Jan 25 @ 12:15pm
which "William Carter" because i type "William Carter" on wiki and theres like 12 "William Carter" (not inculde names that dose not say William Carter)
so which "William Carter" are ya talking about?

Not like me to share spoilers, 8ut...
this dosn't help.

the only information i can get from willam carter that wolfgang and wes could been used to work at the circus

so once again this dosen't show the backstories of each of the characters of don't starve.

it goes into lengthy detail on maxwell and charlies 8ackstory too.
Not to mention woodie, a8igail, wendy and wicker8ottom.
Try reading 8etween the lines man, its a puzzle

something tells me you are telling me to look at the "eighth puzzle" but i just found out about maxwell's backstory and i am going to say the backstory of maxwell's in spoilers (for the idots who didn't heard of this yet)

maxwell started as william carter, a person from england who move to amereca in new york, he started doing magic tricks in puplic but it turned out his was trobble and terribe of it but he was also having trobble with money so he decided to go from new york to san francisco (either to join the circus, move there or to visit his brother jack in calaformia) but on the train, he found a strange book, then a train crashed and i think willam runs off with the book, he was presumed dead but willam tried to send a letter to his brother jack that he is alive, but i think jack didn't show that he was alive. a year later william change his name to maxwell and he done magic tricks with this strange book that appears shadow creatures, but later on there was something strange about him since he got the book and anorther year later the first to find out was his asissant charlie and wants to talk to him about it after the show that night, after on maxwell's show he was doing the new "grand finale" to try and pull this shadow creature out of the book but instead, it pulled maxwell in the book.

so Exodus, how much am i'm right on maxwell's backstory and put it in % of how much am i am right

still it doesn't tell about the orther characters' backstories so now i know maxwell's but what about the orther characters?

eh, I'd rate it a8out eighty percent. I guess if you don't solve the puzzle yourself, it doesn't have the same effect.
Now, this is technically just theory, 8ut I 8elieve...
Jack Carter is actually woodie
The twins is referring to a8igail and wendy
and Jack and Williams mother is Wicker8ottom.

Like I said, it is just logic, 8ut consider this...
If Woodie and Maxwell were 8rothers, and Wicker8ottom was their mother, and the twins were Woodies daughters... That would give a clear link why specifically each character was 8rought into uncompromising wilderness. At first glance, each character seems completely unique, 8ut if they were of the same family... What if Maxwell could only 8ring people from his own 8loodline into the wilderness? Its easy to see the links 8etween each character, and explains the "family portrait" style at the character selection screen. If you take this and look over the notes again, Woodie is said to have lived in North america (I think), which matches with the letters. Why mention unrelated characters? I think everything mentioned in William carters 8ackground is directly affected with the actual game, if you read 8etween the lines.
Anyway, thats my take on it, see it how you will. I hope this helps!

ok so you are saying that all of the character are from the same family i don't think so because WX-78 dosn't have any bloodline or even a family, hell he is a robot plus what about willow, you didn't mentioned her yet. so to me i think maxwell's trying to replace one of the characters so he can have his freedom from his place

I 8elieve WX7eight was made 8y wilson (him 8eing a scientist), which would therefore technically make WX7eight Wilson's son. It is also 8een seen that Wilson uses his own 8lood in various experiments, and if Wx7eight was made using that condition, it would make him as equally via8le. Willow is 8ased off the character charlie, from firestarter ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firestarter_(novel) ), I 8elieve she is Maxwells and Charlies daughter, and Wilsons sister.
of course, this is just speculation, mostly, 8ut I think the evidence speaks for itself.

@ yarheeguy I'll have a read of everything that has been going on. Will let you know. Note I am a moderator and my theory is based on as a fan of my own understanding of the 'puzzle'.

I am sort of on the fence about certain things but I'm leaning more towards Exodus's explanation. I can't really say for sure but you have to look at things from a different perspective. Not everything is in your face clear if you just 'read' the lines, if you know what I mean.

Only an Official Klei member can really know the truth. But asking for help to solve this intricate puzzle from them won't get you far. It's a game they want us to play and solve :)
