After my initial attempt at playing and meeting with some silly errors I first came here to see if anyone had an explanation as to what was up with the many bugs.
I browsed through the forums that were set up for the game and found an official word from the creator of the game which shows future plans:

This, as well as the numerous bug reports in their Troubleshooting forum means that they are aware of the issues and will be looking to solve them.

In the meantime I have found two simple tips that may be relevant to some of your guy's issues (Windows):
1. If your game has issues starting in Full Screen mode instead start it windowed, and change it to fullscreen in the options menu
2. DO NOT hit escape after hitting F1 to bring up the [Proteus] menu while in-game. This will cause a crash.
