Proteus: Should you buy it?
Read all of this before you make a comment, please!
THIS GAME IS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER GAME YOU HAVE EVER PLAYED. I am going to get that out there now. This is why there is such a mixed reaction, because people go in to the game expecting one thing and get suprised, be it pleasently or not. The game has no defined goal, no skills, none of that stuff you will find in any other game that is even similar. So, if you have not bought it yet keep it in mind in deciding if you want to buy the game.
This game is meant for people who like large, open world games, but they would be content simply wandering around it doing nothing other than looking at how pretty the scenery is. Take Minecraft for example. If you have found yourself wandering aimlessly looking at the sunset, then Proteus is for you. Also, if you like the music in Minecraft, and that pretty sunset was so much nicer with a song playing in the background, buy Proteus right now. This is basically all that Proteus is. You look around, chase animals, watch the sun set, and listen to music.
This game is ABSOLUTELY not meant for anyone who likes games were you shoot anything. If you play games like CoD or GTA all the time, whatever you do DONT BUY PROTEUS. ALSO, if you play Minecraft TO BUILD AND SURVIVE BE CAUTIOUS IN BUYING PROTEUS. You probably won't like it, so check online play throughs of Proteus before you buy. In fact, that goes for anyone who wants to buy Proteus. Check the interwebs first!
Anyone that thinks this is a waste of money clearly dove into the game without thinking! Ignore them, figure out if you want the game with this information and the Internet! ITS FAR FROM SIMILAR TO ANY OTHER GAME.

Thanks for the heads up! I didn't know what to think of the game but I think I will buy it!

Very useful information, now I know I'm gonna trash this game from my wishlist
Thanks Spazydragon :D

honestly I feel like I could just go outside and take a walk through a nearbye forest and save money

Yah, but there are bugs out there...
But, in seriousness, it is a different experience than taking a walk outside. There is a "soundtrack" that progresses as you walk through different things, the visuals are colorful, and Proteus is not really meant to look like real life. But, if you would rather take a walk then do so.

Actually the real strength of this game are the sounds. Even if they are sometimes a little bit derpy, they just fit so perfectly with the whole world and make it unique :)

It's similar to LSD Dream Emulator for the PlayStation, actually. Just... more nature-y instead of weird dream-y.

If you turn off the sound its like being in Paint... Got it in a bundle but after all i wound pay for it

Why the hell would you turn off the sound, though? That's like saying turning the sound down when you listen to music makes the music worthless. Well, duh!

Okay, so if I play any games that are exciting in any way, shape, or form, I shouldn't play Proteus? That seems like a horrible way to go about things. I doubt you've never played any exciting games. Please reword this.

I would more call it a vacation of games with a reason. Proteus is like going on vacation and there you are. There is no pressure on you to do anything, no need to do anything just sit back and enjoy the show. Want to fun behind the frog go ahead.. nobody judges you nobody says you are doing it wrong or right. You do what you want to do.

In gaming that is very very uncommon. Even games that let you free will hand you hooks to get you back into the story. Here, what hooks? what story? You are on vacation dude for the nexte 45 minutes just walk around, or not.. and relax.

While I think this is a fair assessment of the game, the CoD stereotype is getting pretty worn out. I love all sorts of games, but just because I played BO and MW3 for a year or two does not mean that Proteus doesn't hold a place in my heart.

I'll never understand how people that use blatant stereotypes don't understand how ignorant it makes them look.

I said that so people who ONLY liked those games would know that it wasn't meant for them. I should have phrased that a little better.

I have played this a couple of times now and yes the music is kinda chilled but there just isn't enough to keep me going, I would sink your money into minecraft where you have some chilled music and have the option of so much more. This one is more of a 'see games are art' exercise and forgot to actually be much of a game.
