Proteus

Crash upon starting
I recently downloaded proteus because I enjoy atmospheric games, but when I downloaded it, after choosing fullscreen by default a small window opened up telling me that "proteus.exe has stopped working" this also happens when I start the game on windowed mode, the error vanishes after about 5 seconds and the game doesn't start, is anyone else having this problem, if so, is there any way to fix it? (I am currently running on windows 7 and my graphics card/processer can handle largely graphical games with general ease, although I don't have any idea what make they actually are, also, for further information I am running on a laptop)

If you want to know which GPU you have, and all other info about your computer, try this: http://www.piriform.com/speccy - it is freeware, very small size and easy to use.

For your main problem, I can't help, sorry.

For me the game crashes my whole PC. When I start the game the screen goes to black and not even "ctrl+alt+del" or "alt+tab" can bring back windows. A hard reset is all I can do.
Now this also happens when I try to start Kentucky Road Zero, same engine?
All other games run fine (Far Cry 3, AC 3, and FTL to name a few)

I've got Win7 64bit and a GTX 570 gpu.

There are some solutions posted in this thread on the official forum: http://www.visitproteus.com/forum/index.php?topic=156.0

Hopefully one of them works for you.
(KRZ uses a different engine, but possibly has a similar issue).

I noticed something in the thread that said "Delete the Setting.txt file from Documents/Proteus" I had a look in my documents and the proteus folder in steamapps, but I couldn't find a settings.txt file. Where exactly is it supposed to be?

It is possible that it isn't able to store the setting file, on my windows 7 install it is in $USER/My Documents/Proteus/settings.txt

I think I may have found the problem, there is no folder/application named Proteus. I think I may have found a solution to fixing the game, thank you for your help

just in case someone else ends up with the same problem, what did you end up doing to fix it?
jonbro 6 fev. 2013 às 9:08
Cupzy solution for other people coming into this thread: if you have any older copies of proteus floating around on your drive, and you are having this issue, make sure to delete all bits of them, and then re-download from steam.

Proteus is crashes my entire computer every time that I try and load an island. I have a brand new Macbook! Does anyone know what might be up? I tried the aforementioned fixes but to no avail.
