The ultimate game of pretentiousness.
This is just another ♥♥♥♥ty indie game that puts style over substance. Thank god I got this as a throwaway game in a Humble Bundle, as the 10 dollar asking price is laughably high. I only posted this as I was re-angered by the "news" that this steaming ♥♥♥♥pile is coming to PS3/Vita.

This is not entertainment. It is pretentious and meaningless. You want to create art? Don't make a ♥♥♥♥ing video game. That's what upsets me most. They feel the need to make this interactive as a video game but don't include any interactivity? What am I meant to experience from this? Nothing I do has any impact on anything. The same ♥♥♥♥ will happen regardless of my personal input.

Braid did the same thing, where they focused so much more on the art, music, and style and made a horrible game with it all. What a waste.

This topic is pointless, but I just wanted to be mad about something. This game sucks. It's not a game. This thing sucks.

I'd be far from calling it a game. It's just an environment to explore and relax in. There's nothing that says every atificial interactive environment needs to be goal oriented. It's a soft dream like world and it reminded me of something I've missed about games in general. Just soaking up the world and actually feeling a part of it. Being mesmerised by something new or unexplained.

No one said it had to be a game.

But yeah, 10 bucks is really far far too high for it.

This game is far away to put art over substance, i think.

Some advice i can make... This game doesn't is like it firstly appears.
It is not just contemplative, it have an ending and a way to reach it, not just walking randomly.

Like a discovery type of game, the things are not that clear, you have to find out, paying attention at the changes on environment and it's sounds.

I'm not entirely sure how this is pretentious? All it is is a clear representation of the seasons and nothing more than that... it's not doing it threw some cryptic message it just presenting it to you in a very clear, colourful and engaing way.

Good point (really).
And although i saw the seasons like metaphoric representations of stages of life, which seems to be implicit at the ending and the increased flow of time when turning from a season to another, it could be seen like a personal interpretation about a more simple thing, like you said. And then, you can't find it pretentiousness. :)

Yeah I mean I understand why people would call Dear Esther pretentious because it presents it's self in a way that's quite cryptic, uses high brow language and in general gives off a very auteur sort of feeling but none of that is to be found here. I mean if you call this pretentious then surely every single piece of art created is pretentious? It's just a toy box presenting your with seasons and is open to interpretation... it doesn't come across as trying to be clever or impenetrable.

But I don't see why you have to exclude a whole medium from exploring what it can be.

Dunno what that means. But I agree with the second part. I'm a digital artist, I'd love to make my stuff more interactive so people can feel more immersed in it, that's part of what video games are to me at their core, I think that's worth exploring.
