Don´t buy. Not even for 2bucks. This is a pretentious, boring, lazy waste of time.
It´s beautiful... but 10 bucks? Nope! Nope! Nope! This is essential Minecraft, without the interaction. Imagine Minecraft where you can´t affect the world. That is Proteus.

You are a floating camera in a random created world. You have no goal. You can only experience sounds and visions. But there is nothing to discover, nothing to experience. It tries to pass random sounds and sights of as depth... but a random block (a frog) that emits random sounds ain´t that different from a random pack of blocks (birds?) that emits different random sounds.

I feel that even 2 dollars were to much for this experience. For 10 bucks you can take a bus trip to a part of town you´ve never been. That experience would be more meaningful than 7minutes of this pretentious waste of time.

YOUR OPINIONS SUCKS!

....Think about what you're bagging on here...a time-waster game...stop bagging on games that aren't meant for you.

In what way wasn´t this game meant for me? Your reply i invalid and wrong.

In what way isn't every game a time waster?

Because you typed all this.

There is plenty to discover if you look for it. For example, the towers on the island have one trigger at a specific time and also another more practical use.

This type of interaction can be found all over the island, you just have to search for it.

Sgt Pepper. Once again you have failed making a meaningsful response. Exactly what in my post suggest this game isn´t for me? And what is this game?
Scorpius1981 Jan 8 @ 6:15pm
You just dont get it then, do you? Not call of duty enough for you I guess?

It is about exploration, just letting go, and taking the world in. Using imagination. I instantly get an emotional response to everything they do with this game, without using words.. only using sound and music, with SOME visual. Not everyone can wrap their head around it. It's fine. Some people dont want to have to think, they want the game to flat out explain everything for you.

Lol, i love it when the only argument for why this game is good is "you people just don´t get it!". It´s quite ironic that you blame other people for not getting it, when you can´t even formulate a proper opinion for your self. Who doesn´t get it i wonder?

The question is not whether exploration and experience is a valid game objective or not, the question is whether stripping every form of interaction heightens the experience or not. What makes the game medium so unique is it´s ability to let the subject interact with the piece of art. Everything you claim makes this game worthwhile can be achieved in other more interactive games. In Dark Souls i explore, i use imaginatin, i get emotional responses from the visual and audioatory cues. Same for minecraft. The difference is... these game have bothered to create and incentive for exploring, which heightens explorative experience.

No, if you none of you pretentious n00bs can come up with a better argument than "you just don´t get" it, don´t bother posting. You just make a fool out of yourselves.

@psyk.dag I think your opinion about Proteus is too harsh.

@psyk.dag There are some games out there that aren't all about killing someone or saving someone or racing to the finish line. There are some games like Proteus that are all about the experience, what you see, what you hear, and what you observe. If you (psyk.dag) see that this is what the developer is trying to do. Then maybe this game won't be soooo boring, maybe you can get just a little bit more out of it then a green block jumping away. Sure it is only a green block or is it?

Just like the Zen Koans, it isn't something you can explain in words when you get it. There is no way to formulate an opinion on something that is just gotten in an unspoken way. You have a moment of inspiration, of enlightenment. You just do, or you don't. If you do try to explain it in words, it is lost. The problem is that we, in the west, are taught that we always have DO, to be in CONTROL. Just stop. Stop trying to control everything, go with it. The game leads you, just follow. Use intuition as your guide. Yes, Minecraft CAN be played like this game, but it doesn't really lead you, you control it. Dark Souls, which think is an awesome game (love the difficulty of it), still is about control. To me, it is nice not having to really be in control for once (work 2 jobs, only every other Sunday off, got a 2yr old.. I am ALWAYS doing), to just relax and find where the game will lead me. I let my mind tell me a story of what it is that I find. What is the story behind the abandoned house? Is it abandoned? Who or what is that owl-man shadow figure that appeared? Should I follow it, or run away? What is the history behind the towers? Was that a ghost that I just seen by the big tree in the fall? WHY is the sky red? Kinda freaking me out.. Those are just some of my experiences. I apologize if I came off as insulting in my previous post. It isn't good to judge people you don't know.

Saying this game is like minecraft is like saying call of duty is like skyrim.
Atomic Sandvich Jan 8 @ 11:55pm
Yeah pretty much, some games aren't meant for people. You may prefer violence, but some people like peaceful games that let you relax. I understand why you would say this is not a good game, but you comparing it to minecraft? I agree with sir eight bit on that. Minecraft isn't even in the same game genre as this.
Scorpius1981 Jan 10 @ 9:45pm
Yeah, this is more of a meditational experience on a PC than a game.
