Proteus vs. Walking around outside
Walking around outside in real life
Pros:
-better graphics (One time I got really close to a tree and I still couldn't see the pixels)
-better gameplay (You can climb trees and actually do things unlike in Proteus)
-better story (Yesterday I was talking to a neighbour about stuff, not too interesting but Proteus doesn't even have a story)
-better music (I bring my iPod with me when I go for walks)
-health benifits
-free

Cons:
-not recomended to do in extreme weather

Proteus
Just take the opposite of above I guess

That could still happen inside when playing on your PC. Especailly the first one, it happens more than you think.

Proteus vs. Walking around outside
Proteus
Pros:
-better graphics (A unique graphical style taking you somewhere you could never go otherwise)
-better gameplay (You don't have to worry about managing energy levels, stats, dieing altogether)
-Less distractions (No cars honking in the distance, no other people demanding your attention, just you and your thoughts making up your own adventure)
-better music (which with subtle tunes and effects puts emphasis on you and your interactions with the environment, adding to the graphical style for a completely harmonious experience)
-health benifits (mostly mental health but you won't get caught in car fumes for example)
-almost free (if you grab it in a bundle or promo it might be less than a €)
- recomended to do in extreme weather, makes it even better

How is less/no gameplay better gameplay?

Probably in much the same way more sound isn't always better sound. Not every piece of music needs to have a whole orchestra playing at once; it's okay to like the quiet and slow parts as much as (or more than) the big loud parts with lots going on.

That makes sense for sound but not really for gameplay. Gameplay is the sort of thing where the more you have the better. I've never seen a game have too much gameplay, but I have seen a game have way to much noise going on before.

Well, outside has those weird things called people.

Oddly enough I go outside specifically to avoid those weird things, but to each their own

My point was I guess more about appreciating the quiet end of the spectrum than not liking the loud end of the spectrum, but yes, I actually do happen to think that games can be mechanically overloaded. Not in any objective sense, of course, just as music can't objectively be too loud. Some might like it that way, and that's fine.

So, if, for you, "more is always better" in terms of mechanics, that's perfectly okay, but the very fact that you don't like Proteus and others do should indicate that your preferences don't necessarily apply to people who aren't you.

When ever I hear people talking about a game sequal for example they always say things like "I hope they add some more game features" or "it would be cool if they added X as a game feature". Unless they are talking about a widely hated and/or poorly implimented game mechanic, no one has ever asked for a game to have less gameplay features.

And no one sane likes proteus.

Ah, I see. Despite the first post, for a minute there I thought you wanted to have some kind of discussion. My mistake.
