How is this game compared to WOTR?
Been giving WOTR a spin for a month and really sick of it. Too unbalanced and awful lag. Thanks for your feedback

They both were very different, and had different types of gameplay, but overall, Chivalry was more appealing to more players.

Thank you good to know.

I completely agree, chivalry is an AMAZING game, you should definatly get it.

This game is so awesome. It's what Mount & Blade: Warband's multiplayer should have been like if it had been perfect. Well, Warband has more game modes (assault/defend castle) and cavalry, but its gameplay is clunky compared to Chivalry.

My dream game combines Chivalry's combat and graphics, with Warband's single player and MP game modes.

Hopefully it is coming someday.

As for WotR, stay away from it. It offers nothing that can't be much bested by either of the 2 aforementioned games.

i own both games, enjoy chivalry way more. the only thing working better in WotR is arching. and archers need to die.

As someone who put 100+ hours into the War of the Roses Beta I can say, this game is better. Mainly because the melee combat feels less spammish.

What it comes down too:

WoTR: Horses/Jousting. Executions. Bandaging/reviving allies. Amazing Archery. Same old Objectives(domination, ctf etc), Directional Attacking/Blocking (good, not utilized well enough).

Chiv: Better Graphics, WAY better Melee combat, Worse Archery. Feels more like a battle. Ability to play both 1st and 3rd person. Castle Sieges/Seige equipment. Innovative Objectives.

Both are good, from what I have played, I would say Chivalry wins.

I have not played enough of Chivalry yet to make my final decision, but honestly if you are a fan of this genre I would buy both.

For the most part, I have never played a game like either of these, so I would say if you are hankering for some Medieval warfare, buy both.

Also : Both : are Indie. So expect bugs/imbalance/no control over hackers/FUN

What it comes down to: Really for me the winner will be which one does better in 12 months. Which one of these is going to better support/update their game, as well as additional content.

As for whats in now: What do you want "Wicked horses jousting/Archry" or with Chiv: "Wicked Melee combat, feels like a battle, castle sieging"..

You really cannot lose with either of these.

I also bought both of them. In short - Chivalry is just fun *game*. Some might call it simplier, but for me fun counts the most. Chiv have better controls. WotR have some more "complex" mechanics which actually only irritate. Not harder or realistic, but just illogically complicated. Executions? Stupid - you can have your throat cut for a few times with interrputs. Bandaging\reviving - even worse, you have insta-heal (not quite, but full heal in 3 secs? Yeah, riiiight) and respawning in front of your nose from thin air in the middle of battle - not the greatest concept for medivel game. No interesting game modes in WoTR.

Only things that better in WotR are archers and horses (and maybe visuals). Everything else in WotR is just a glitchy half-working mess.

I guess I left out the TERRIBLE spawning in WotR.

I think Executions are great, and so is the ability to heal your team mates and yourself (although healing should have been locked down to a class or ability) I do not know why you don't like executions.

Its like teabagging but supported. You get to rub it into your opponents face in awesome animatied fashion, you prevent them from getting revived, you prevent them for spawning as they have to watch the execution, AND you get additional points. Whats not to love.

Not only that, you get free kills, because noobs love executing over fighting live enemies, win win.

But as for the spawning, that is what kills WoTR and holds it back from greatness.

People get mad in Chivalry when you get 2v1's imagine playing Chivalry, fighting someone 1v1 and then out of thin air 5 of that guys team mates spawn on him, and face roll you.....seriously spawning on almost anyone at any time.

That is what WoTR is all about, fun fights that get ruined by terrible spawning mechanics. There is nothing worse than having a 3-5 minute hard fought battle, and have it robbed at the last second becasue 3 of that guys team mates spawned on him.

Not only that, imagine being at objectives and have the enemy spawning at the objective they are trying to capture.

The more I think about it, SPAWNING, is the deal breaker in this battle.

If not for spawning I would say it is close, but as you reminded me of the worst thing about WoTR yes, that is the tie breaker, buy Chivalry.

Spawning ruined that game. Can't believe I forgot about it.

CMW melee combat is better then WoTR, but WoTR's ranged combat is superior in every way & it has better maps & graphics.

idk im better at archer on chiv then i am on wotr, i like both, and i think both have there own ups and downs, dont hate me on this but i feel chiv and wotr are like the old cod vs battlefield arguments

I really wanted this game becuase I love these time periods. I played the beta for WotR and I thoiught it was just terrible and glitchy and made me very dissappointed. Thanks to the comments here i think as soon as i get the funds im going to pick Chiv up. Hopefully everyone is still playing by then. I just wanted say thanks for the feedback everyone left.
carrion Dec 12, 2012 @ 8:06pm
@DravenMajere i wouldnt worry too much about the player base, it's really healthy right now with lots of players and servers (at least in america & europe).
Btw, to get an idea about the current activity in a game i recommend the steam stats page: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
