Share the wealth or be greed?

Would it be better to focus on buffing a single droid (likely the controlled one) with upgrades or should I spread the upgrades around a bit?

Myself, I buff one favourite droid up as much as possible, and keep a heavily armoured droid around as a spare when it finally wears out, which keeps me alive long enough to pick my next favourite droid to start buffing.
