Game refuses to install at all
I click the install button in the games library and it pops this up.
"Converting existing game installation. This may take several minutes."

It's been sitting for more than half an hour with no progress.

The Hotline Miami properties window shows disk usage: <none> and I have several hundred GB free on each of the OS and game drives.

Heya,

I do not remember this a common thing.

So locate your Steam folder.
Go to "Steam\steamapps\common" there delete the Hotline Miami folder with everything in it.
Go back to "Steam\steamapps" and open the "downloading" folder.
Also delete everything in it (presuming it is only Hotline Miami you are currently downloading!).

Exit and restart Steam, start downloading Hotline Miami again.
Before starting a freshly downloaded game, check the game cache first.
Then restart Steam completely and start the new game.
Usually Steam installs a current patch or starts the installation process of the extra programs needed to play the game (like directx, vcredist20XX etc. ).

Hope this helps you.

There was nothing in the /common or /downloading directories for Hotline Miami.

Quitting and restarting Steam didn't do anything (same screen when attempting to install), but rebooting my computer fixed it. :\

Thanks for the help anyway.

Right, of course this game requires a reboot to install when a hundred other steam games have worked correctly without that extra step, including several others from the same purchase.

Jackass.
