MASSIVE ERROR CRASHES MY GAME, PLEASE HELP!!!
Hey, I'm having a serious problem getting Hotline Miami to play beyond Chapter 4. It works pretty good with the previous chapters, but as soon as I leave the stage, the scoreboard doesn't show up. However, the message "NEW WEAPON UNLOCKED" appears and I try to click it. This is the message I receive, causing the game to crash:
___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Draw Event
for object objScoreDetails:

Trying to use non-existing surface.
_____________________________________________

Up to this point, I have done the following to make the game playable:

*Disabled the "Print Spool" service
*Turned off the "SURFACE" option and the "CLEAR BLOOD" option to on
*Installed and used the "vcredist_x86.exe"
*Re-Installed Hotline Miami (2x)
** Used the Beta-Update for Hotline Miami (When I used the Hotline Miami launcher included in the update, the game didn't launch at all! So this led me to revert the Beta-Update...)

And so far, none of these options have worked in getting rid of the error. Also, here are the system specs for my Operating System, -- Windows XP:

*2.79 GHz, 1.99 Gigabytes of RAM
*52.7 Overall GB capacity of the computer
-37.9 GB used
-14.7 GB of free space

I have e-mailed this error to the support team, and to the community a while ago, but no one has even responded to this pressing issue! I would be absolutely grateful if someone knew how I can get back to the murderfest!!

TL;DR: Can't play Hotline Miami, no one is currently giving a solution to the error, please help! D:

If any minor information could help in getting rid of this bug, I also turned off the "Steam Workshop" option to make the game play more smoothly. Should this option be activated to make Hotline Miami playable?

I have the same problem and the only solution so far is to keep on restarting the game and playing the level again. I REALLY wish i have a better option. Btw my computer is almost just like yours.

I fixed mine see if this helps you as well. Go into my computer then local disc (C:) and find the folder WINDOWS. Once in the folder WINDOWS find the folder system32 and once your in the folder system32 scroll down until you find two things named dinput8.dll and dinput.dll (they should be right next to each other and in alphabetical order) Once you have found them copy them both and paste them in your hotline miami folder which you should know how to get to. After that restart your computer and the game should work almost fine. If it does the same thing with cut scenes i dont think there is anyway to fix that so you might as well just skip them :D
