Hotline Miami

Thoughts on ending and overall story?
I really love this game and the story along with it but I do find the whole Jacket and Biker killing each other a little confusing. Anybody want to share opinions on this? Also which character did you prefer?

Wasn't the greatest was it! Would recommend youtubing it rather than collecting all the puzzle pieces unless you're achievement hunting.
I enjoyed it for what it was. I wasn't expecting the game to even have much in the way of an ambitious story - the fact that it did was icing on the cake.
I loved the unreliable narrator and characters, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that true ending. Wasn't expecting that...
In a bad way, though ;-;

I found the true ending and the story to be great and overall it kind of summed it up perfectly. It's a game about violence and how it effects people. It doesn't choose to stylize it or glorify it at all, it just shows what it is. In the end the developers are talking to you directly through the janitors. They had you following them throughout the game just to prove a point. How accepting are we to violence? What makes them better or worse than the biker or jacket by simply calling to get people killed instead of doing it themselves. In the end, they taunt you to kill them. If you kill them, the game wins. Or at least that's what I got out of it and through the interviews with the developers :). Very great ending and story. (I'm still confused over the jacket killing the biker thing though... multiple timelines or the same one? :D)
My and a lot of people's theory is that Helmet put Jacket into a coma as that is when the halloucinations start to kick in.

But then how does that explain the police officer mentioning the GF's death at the hospital? If you were in a coma the whole time, where does richter killing jacket's GF and you getting revenge on him fit in? dont get me wrong you have a good theory but it leaves some plot holes, I personally think biker's ending never really occurred, because when richard tells you "You'll never see the whole picture and its all your fault" I'm thinking he was saying that because you prevented biker from getting to the real culprits the "Janitors", and now the real masterminds will never be revealed

That would make sense, but the thing is, Helmet stabs.
I actually like the false ending more that the true ending because it was ambiguous while the real ending reveals things that weren't explained but most of it was deductible

I can see seperate timelines definitely exisiting, with Jacket's timeline being the main one that is going to be canon in the sequel. Although the possibility of it being in one timeline is there also. I think that Jacket might have lied to himself about killing the biker. Most of the game takes place in unreliable flashbacks, told from Jacket's perspective. You see the dead biker on the ground in the beginning of the game inside a convience store however he disappears after the store owner says "This isn't real". Also when you smash the biker's face, his last words are "This... can't be happening" and of the tips in the beginning of the hospital level says "Tell the truth". I think that jacket killing the russian boss and the biker killing the janitors probably happened at the same time (with jacket thinking he found the source of the calls and ended them by killing the mob boss with the biker actually ending the calls) also "Damn phones, I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate these things!" sounds a lot like a biker line.

(sorry for the massive wall of text O_O`)
I like this theory
still havent seen the secret ending but out of the 2 characters (jacket and biker) i prefer biker. hes just cooler. has a cool bike, machete and throwing knives and his apartment is cool too.

I prefer Jacket. I just think he's a great character, he's presumebly using 50 blessings to get over his ex-girlfriend and during that he finds a drug addled prostitute and forms a relationship with her. I just think he has a lot more character than Helmet

I agree with you, I like biker but if the game was only about him, the story would be pretty dull. I think the devs used him correctly.

Kinda ironic that the guy who doesn't talk and is more developed than the guy who talks all the damn time.

Yeah he talks all the time but his talking consists of "I'm bored of killing people, I quit". Jacket actually has a story, and motivations and events that aren't clear and it makes you want to know more and more, just my opinion.
