Game doesn't work

Every time I start this game I get the following message:

failed to initialize direct music audio

After that another error message like this:

ERROR in
action number 1
of Create Event
for object objDevolver:

Error defining an external function.

Usually the game doesn't work or works very badly but I did manage to play it once, although there was no music. Is there going to be a fix to this soon? I'm using Windows 8 but surely a game that is so new should work with the OS with no problems?
