Hotline Miami Startup Difficulties
When I open Hotline Miami, it takes forever to load. The screen goes black then it is really laggy and very very slowly becomes lighter revealing the title screen which looks like its moving 1 frame every 5 seconds. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I am using windows 8 ( the game worked fine previously) and I am using a completely new laptop so there should be no problems there. If anyone has found a solution I would be very grateful to hear it, many thanks in advance.

Im honestyl so sick of this issue, i wanted this game for months on end, i was so excited, bought it and its just a waste of space, as far as im concerned, or at least until it works, be it a patch or whatnot, unless the problem is resolved swiftly, i see no reason to bother with steam, being that Hotline Miami was my motive to joining!

You guys need to do one or more of the following;
1- update all of your
drivers
2 - update your hardware
3 - uninstall and then reistall the game
4 - re-boot your PC

The problem I'm having is that at random times I'll get an error message and the game crashes. I've tried reinstalling it twice and it still does it. The other weird thing was the when I choose to create a Desktop Icon it just shows as a blank shortcut.

Asthenia i have the shortcut problem, but my problem is the inablity to run the game. Working together maybe we can come up with a solution while waiting for a patch!

I know its annoying but I have found that uninstalling and then reinstalling it usually works, though I am not to sure how reliable this "fix" is.

I was having problems starting up. When I first installed the x86 c++ 2010 redistributable microsoft package didn't install correctly because I had a newer version. It needs service pack 1 so you have to uninstall the previous version and install the older version found in the "redist" folder where you find the game files. I also right clicked the .exe and set to run in compatibility mode with visual themes, desktop configuration disabled and run as admin.

summary
- uninstall any versions of microsoft c++ redists
- install vcredist_x86.exe in the "redist" folder for hotline miami
- right click the .exe and select the compatibility tab and check these options
- Disable Visual Themes
- Disable Desktop Composition
- Run as administrator

I am also launching the game not via steam but from the .exe directly.

hope this helps someone
