Why did the Janitors want Jacket dead?
I know there's no solid answer to this but I was just wondering what people thought. I've been searching around a bunch of forums but few people ask the question and even fewer speculate on what the answer could be.

So I ask you. Why do you think the janitors sent Richter to kill Jacket? After all Jacket was an inarguably obedient and highly effective pawn. Why would the Janitors decide to kill him?

The only answer I can think of is that maybe they were worried he'd eventually try and go back to Phonehom? Wonder why he had to kill Biker and what he was doing there and wind up picking the trail up from where Biker left off? I dunno. What do you think?

It was probably more like a test, also to see who's the bigger pawn. Jacket didn't seem to care for the Janitors nor from where the phonecalls were coming from, only the apparent consequences.

You could also assume the Janitors were simply afraid of him, since they didn't really have direct control nor a way to keep watch over him. Maybe they had a protocol which they followed where they would end an agent after every so tasks so they wouldn't become like Biker and start questioning stuff without fearing the "apparent consequences". Which is really a big bluff, according to them.

Either way I don't really like the canon backstory. I like to think the Janitors are underpowered versions of the developers of the game world they're in and are effectively manipulating people to "make the game" you're playing. Game ends when they laugh at your face and have you kill them so it ends.

Actually, I think they want Jacket dead because he did not do his job properly. In Decadence (Chapter Three), Jacket saves Hooker instead of killing her as he was told to (he has to leave no witness behind).

The Janitors know Hooker has survived because they wash Jacket's apartment as seen in the introduction of Clean Hit (Chapter Six). Since Hooker knows what happened, 50 Blessings (the whole operation against the Russians) could be at risk if she ever talked to the police. So they decide to send Richter to kill Hooker and also Jacket since he is not trustworthy anymore.

This seemed like the most sensible explanation to me when I played the game.

Didn't really think about that. I like that explanation. Makes sense.

The game is rife with 4th wall breaking questions and social commentaries so you're not wrong. Though I like treat the message and commentary seperately from the in game story.
There are also two possible reasons: first is that you failed to make one of your missions like planned(that one when police stormed the place and almost got you) and second it's that you angered cleaners because you didn't take missions for some long time. You can see it when you take a call with the last mission before Richter will drill you and hooker when you will come back home. The voice in phone tells you that you are lousy from some time and in the end you can hear click click click sound which indicates that someone on the other side is so much pissed off that he has problems with putting phone back on place xd

I always thought that because Jacket was so effective and discreet at performing his duties, he pretty much single-handedly wipes out the Russian mafia single-handedly save for headquarters. Since he starts to outlive his usefulness by this point, the Janitors have him and his girlfriend shot to stop them from talking to anyone about 50 Blessings.

Skymirrth's post is a much better interpretation than mine, though.

Technically, Jacket doesn't take out the Russian Mafia singlehandedly, remember that the biker, Richter, and probably others are working for the Janitors too. The final boss of Jacket's storyline says something like "you must be one of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ killing my men". Just wanted to point that out

Also throughout the game we come across a dead "mask wearer" with a mask next to his corpse and we also see another "mask wearer" tied to a chair in a room that is rigged to blow should anyone attempt to enter it.

Most of the mask wearers die in the line of duty, but Jacket didn't.

I agree with UnluckyDuckie, the janitors didn't want no ..."loose ends"

BRINGING THIS BACK FROM THE DEAD

and yeah but Jacket killed the majority of the mafia, oviously
YerBoyGrix 7/abr./2015 às 22:36
We'd have to know how numerious the mafia actually was to decide whether or not Jacket killed the ' majority ' of the Russian Mob. I don't think any ONE person in the masked vigilante moement did really. Jacket certainly did his fair share and he was responsible for killing the leadership of the Mob making his efforts undoubtably some of the most crucial.

And yeah, the second game kinda solved the issue for me. I mean the janitors arranged a prison riot to serve a distraction so they could get richter killed. So yeah. Tying up loose ends.
