I disagree with MB Ghost. Yes, the game is challenging, but not as challenging as an average 80's 8 bit game. And gore is one of the game's defining features, so there's no way to turn it off.

im 34 but i have three kids and the oldest is 6,he plays skyrim, myst, riven and so on,he watches youtube video lets plays of all his fav games and enjoy's them but i try to limit the amount of gore in games as much as possible.

I on the other hand like the look of this game,i enjoy retro games and play many arcade games as well on my own arcade BUT i do not think soo much gore is needed,if a game is good then it is good without the need for extreme gore,it's a shame as this does look like a good game and apparently it's gameplay is pretty good.

Developers should think before releasing games, this is the reason i refuse to play meatboy and it also put me off buying issac for the same reasons.

This game is for adults, because the gore acts as a reward for killing the enemies in the game. The satisfyingly visceral gore in games like this, Left 4 Dead 2 and God of War make the games rewarding, and without the over the top violence, these games would lose a lot of fun. The game is heavily stylized so the violence is not too intense, but I still wouldn't let a child play it. I recommend a child play a Monaco instead, since it is very similar to this game and is not as violent.

They do not aim their games at younger fanbases.
>this is the reason i refuse to play meatboy
Meatboy is a piece of meat, how can you find it offensive?

In my opinion, the gore in Hotline Miami is essencial for the point its story is trying to make, which is that violence in video games is often pointless, as we often follow directions given to us in video games without actually paying attention to what they entail morally. It would not make near as much of an impact without the excessive violence.

If you want a game with similar gameplay but less gore, get Monaco.

For a more in-depth look at Hotline Miami, check out Satchbags's case study on YouTube.

I agree. Just because it's a game does not mean it is for kids.

Stick to the age ratings for your kids, they are there for a reason. No wonder this current generation is so messed up.

Meatboy is a character without skin, you drip blood everywhere you run and jump,i actually find super meatboy offensive and distasteful.

Dinetree, thankyou for your post as this is actually helpful ! i will check out monico
