Intro all f!@#$ed up, blank white screen when I press start. What gives?

Like the title says. I am having trouble getting the game to play. I am not a tech savvy person, but I love my games, and I am about to flip a ♥♥♥♥♥ because this game looks seriously great and fun, and I cannot play it.

The game starts inconspicuously enough, with scrolling background and title graphic, but there are a bunch of sound effects that I'm guessing should be accompanied by graphics or sprites of some sort-- Curiously missing. When I press start, there's a loading screen, and then a blank grey screen with what I assume is a crosshair over it, and then everything goes white. I can only hear what I assume is the rolling sound effect when I double tap in a direction, and I fired a few bullets, I think. Yeah, so, wtf is going on?
