Time to get a little something out of my chest.
I've been both meaning to, and avoiding at the same time, writing this review for the particular reason that neither Overkill nor Almir deserve even a second of spotlight.
PAYDAY2 used to be a very fun game at first. It was a game that revolved around performing heists, either loud or stealth, usually by choice, whilst influenced, heavily, by co-op and team-play. It used to be updated regularly with content, most of it paid, which was alright at the time. It even introduced two new dificulty-changing mechanics in fear the players would get bored of the game. Both the Cloaker enemy and the Deathwish update. It also provided us with an infamy update which, in itself, should keep players playing the game more, and give them a goal after the final level 100. It had, and has still, excellent weapon customization, it has it's fair share of masks and as of late, quite a few characters to choose from. And this is where the bad stuff comes in. PAYDAY2 is not so much of a game anymore, rather than an advertisement. There are three types of characters. The main five you get for free, the ones you pay for, and the ones they're paid to introduce. Yes, PAYDAY2 introduces characters based on movies, whilst advertising those movies, in a way that's not even subtle. By featuring their trailers whenever you start the game. "Free content" my ♥♥♥♥. Well it doesn't stop there. Most games settle for a few expansion packs and DLCs. Which is understandable because some companies need a certain ammount of money to stay running and not shut down. The thing is none of those companies have TWO HOUNDRED ♥♥♥♥ING DOLLARS OF DLC! Well, excluding the stupidity that is Train Simulator. But that's a story for another day.
Now here's the part where it gets interesting!
Apparently, 200$ in DLC wasn't enough. And new content is hard to come up with. Overkill needed a fast, and easy way to make money, with zero to no effort. How did they do it, you ask? Easy! They disabled support for most mods and skins, went into third party mod hosting websites, downloaded user skins, implemented into the game without credditing ANYONE, and locked them away in safes! How to open the safes? With drills from the steam market! The MORONS, as there is no other term of refering to Overkill as, have LITERALLY, but QUITE LITERALLY copied the CS:GO/TF2:GM code, as in, safe unboxing, roulette, skin wear and tear and color quality, aswell as weapon inspection, into PAYDAY2! And again, IT'S NOT EVEN SUBTLE! The same roulette! The same weapon inspection animations! Some of these skins even look the same! Now, you think it's not that bad, that the game is trying to base itself off of more successfull games such as CS:GO and TF2, right? Well neither CS:GO and TF2 have 200$ worth in ♥♥♥♥ing DLC, and none of them cost a ♥♥♥♥ing 20$ in the steam store. PLUS, These games have a competitive factor, and are exclusively PVP! PAYDAY 2 is a CO-OP PVE GAME!
To recap, is PAYDAY2 a good game? Was. Before it became an add and a machine that milks the fans who use daddy's money every month and have no ♥♥♥♥ing priorities. Is it STILL a good game? As of the implementation of microtransactions, which Overkill promissed THRICE NOT TO IMPLEMENT, having the AUDACITY, mind you, to one of those times say "SHAME ON YOU IF YOU THOUGHT OTHERWISE"? No. It's not a good game anymore.
Rest in peace PAYDAY2.
Thanks for reading if you even made it this far.
Have a good day.
Oh, and the skins, by the way, add stat bonuses to the weapons. I don't know how making a P90 bright neon ♥♥♥♥in' green adds more accuracy, but I'm sure there's a logical explenation, right?
[Edit] Did I mention Overkill submited an apology? But they're still releasing new safes and skins almost monthly, so their apology is pretty much void!
so, i already made a post a while ago and after 30 comments noone commented anymore even after i bumped the thread. i didnt posted it in bug reporting back then.
