Astranon's Review of Planets Under Attack:
Planets Under Attack is a strategy game where you choose one of three factions and manage a galactic empire. You do this by invading planets belonging to other factions while defending your own. There is a campaign mode where you can play as one of the three factions. You can also choose to play a standalone game or with friends.
Planets Under Attack is a game of numbers. This means that strategy comes down to whether the player is able to overpower an opponent by outnumbering his or her spaceships. When a planet is placed in defense mode, its number of spaceships increase. When it is placed in attack mode, it stops accumulating but the player is able to send its spaceships to invade other planets or defend friendly ones. Toggling a planet's mode and sending spaceships here and there makes up the bulk of gameplay. There are no spectacular space battles. Spaceships themselves are quite monochromatic and cannot be upgraded or customized. There is also no civilization aspect to the planets themselves as the only option that exists is to upgrade a planet so that it can accommodate more spaceships. That's it.
For a sci-fi game with multiple modes of gameplay and decent artwork, one would expect gameplay in Planets Under Attack to be more complex. It is instead a monotonous experience that is more mathematical than entertaining. I do not recommend this game.
