FAQ
We put together some of the top questions we received with the Steam launch for you.

Merc?
Short for mercenary. :)

------
Outdated version?

If you encounter issues with starting the game on Steam, try the following steps:

1. Close JAO
2. Go to your Library, look for Jagged Alliance Online - Steam Edition in your games-overview on the left side.
3. Right click the name and go to select Properties.
4. Now go to Local Files and click Verify Integrity of Game Cache...
The system will check for any updates and flush your Steam Cache.
5. Once this is done, try to log in to JAO

Now you should be able to start JAO. If you don't, please send your JAO-Log file including your company name to jao-support@cliffhanger-productions.com.
------

I have no interest in pvp matches. Does anyone know if there are any free contracts to try before putting down cash for the campaign pack?
Yes, there are. You play through a tutorial to get familiar with the basic game mechanics. Contracts Level 2 – 10 can then be played and tested for free. Furthermore, all the Warzones and the first Prestige Map are accessible to everyone, as well.

------

Why can’t I play more missions?
To unlock the PvE content after contract 10, you need the campaign pack.
You can however PvP your way up all the way to level 50 with your team. The PvE is extra content we see as optional.

------

Download All DLCs… What does that mean?
Getting either of the DLC packs will give you the full campaign content.
Additionally, you will get a merc, Ivan with the Ivan Edition or Shadow with the Shadow Edition, one merc slot, and some extra cash.

Getting BOTH DLCs will give you to the full campaign, both mercs including their slots and the extra cash from BOTH DLCs, but IS NOT REQUIRED to play the campaign.

------

Can I delete my merc and create new one? // Can I reset my mercs?:
Unfortunately there is no easy way to adjust your merc or names after creation.
However, all your mercs can be useful, even when you don't like the one you created. Later in the game you will need up to 6 mercs for missions and you can individualize them exactly to your needs. Trust us, play for a while and you will see!

------

Rehiring mercs:
Mercs you hired will stay in your merc list the way they were when the contract ended so that you can easily re-hire them without any further hassle. However, you can still take the items off your merc when their contract has run out.

------

Dismiss mercs:
You can completely dismiss hired mercs, as well. They will then disappear from your merc list, including the items they might have had equipped. So make sure to remove the items before you dismiss them. Also the skill points get reset. So if you decide to hire the same merc again later, he will be as you never had them.

------

How to whisper:
You can whisper ingame using either the command /w “USERNAME" or by right clicking the name in the chat and then selecting “whisper”.

------

Why no Linux?
JAO uses Unity 3.5, but for Linux Unity 4 is required.

------

Where is pvp?
PvP unlocks with level 7 (after completing contract 5 – Hell Hath No Fury).
Go the worldmap; you will see a star with a skull. Click it and deploy your mercs to sign up for PvP.

------

Co-op:
You can play against other players and you can also form Alliances. Alliances will be especially helpful when playing Warzones as there are also fancy alliance rewards to be won. You cannot play directly with your friends in a map.

------

PvP-matching:
The match making for PvP is currently random, so you cannot play with or against a friend of yours unless randomly matched.

------

How can I turn around or look into a different direction?
Right click the spot you want to look at until you see the eye. Then confirm.

------

How can I rotate the camera?
Not at all. We kept it the way known from previous JA games where the cam was always fixed. We have thought about implementing the options later on, but due to the resources that would require, we cannot promise anything.

------

Ammo stacking;
You can’t stack low ammo mags, but you can sell them to the store and buy new ones. They are not expensive at all and you can also get them in the emergency shop in case you run low while playing a mission or pvp. Take care though of which ammo you buy – there is normal one, and special, more expensive one.

------

How to ignore other users:
It’s currently not possible to ignore other players, but the feedback was forwarded to the developers.

------

Does reinstalling JAO delete any of my game saves?
No, all of your company data is stored server side, you can't lose anything by reinstalling JAO.

------

My Mercs have special class bonuses?

Q: How do I change which ammo type I'm using? Left clicking on ammo from my ammo belt just deletes the ammo instead of loading it. Right clicking does nothing.

A: Either open your inventory and click on the button left of the ammo you want to use (the "1" marks the currently used ammo) or if ingame you can click on the ammo belt (Where the weapon is displayed the button with the ammunition icon) and click on one of the buttons on top of the ammo you want to use (The yellow bar marks the one you currently use).

Q: Can I skip the tutorial?

Q: how do I play this version using my gamigo account?
Calimera Jun 8, 2013 @ 11:18am
@Craig: No, the tutorial cannot be skipped

@mischief_: You can't. Gamigo and Steam run on different servers. You can't merge or transfer. afaik.

Sam is correct. Can't use Gamigo account for Steam version though you CAN use a Kongregate account to play on the same server as the Steam one. Gamigo is still a browser only version and is kept separate.

How do I play my Kongregate account through the steam version? Is that even possible? If it's the same server then it should allow me to play my same account.

Kongregate doesn't connect through the Steam launcher not use the Steam account. I haven't used Kongregate yet but I'd imagine you'd have to download their version and use it with their account. I'm merely saying that Kongregate players and Steam players ultimately end up on the same game server since the server is the game company's not Steam's nor Kongregate's. I see both types of gamers in chat all the time.

I did, got a response asking if I could log into the game, which I can, but every time I do, I still don't have my mercs or cash.
