Slowdown getting really bad...
I really love the game, best TD game I've played in years, but it seems that now that I have a full army of maxxed characters, the game gets SUPER slow at 4x speed. It's borderline unplayable. Anyone else have this issue? Any idea how to fix it? I love the pixel art, but a game that looks like this shouldn't really be suffering slowdown at all on a modern PC imo.

We've had occasional bouts with slowdown and have managed to remove most of them. It's possible (probable?) that there's still a memory leak or two in there that can kick in. Can you be more specific about when it happens? Is it right when you start, after you're a few waves in, after a hundred waves on the endless mode? Anything in particular seem to help or hurt the degradation of speed?

Flash is admittedly not particularly good at memory management (garbage collection), so it's easier than you'd think to end up with stuff taking up way too much RAM and eventually grinding down a bit.

The best thing you can do on your end is to go into the graphics settings and turn down the particles, that seems to help for most people.

The slowdown seems to crop up when all my archers are spamming Rain of Death and there are lots of mobs on the screen. It does get a little worse deeper into the levels, but it can start really early if I have lots of abilities being spammed.

I have already turned down pretty much everything in the options to reduce slowdown and it hasn't helped much. I did realize that if I have Hulu or some other flash-based media playing on my second monitor while this game is running on the other, it will slow down even more. I suppose this is somehow due to both of them being flash-based?

Anyway, great job on the game and fantastic job on customer service in these forums. I can't wait for Defender's Quest 2, hopefully non-flash based? I'll probably buy it regardless. Keep 'em coming!

I'm researcing HaXe for future projects. So far it seems promising, though documentation is a little thin. That would still let us make a browser-based demo and create a native executable for the desktop with hardware acceleration.
