Played the demo and I love the concept of the game! Still, one thing is a bit annoying: the music doesn't seem to loop properly (there is a gap/moment of silence when the music repeats). Are you going to fix this?

Edit: Uhm, maybe someone should start a bug report thread for stuff like this... ;)

A bug thread isn't a bad idea, though it might be hard to manage as well. We don't have a good sense of how many people we're talking about yet, haha. :) I'll go ahead and create one, but no promises if it explodes (though that's a good problem to have!)

If you're talking about the very slight hiccup between loops, that's a problem with Flash and MP3 playback. We actually spent quite a while trying to minimize the hiccup through millisecond manipulations of the sound file, but even then still have some problems.

If you're talking about the title screen, I think we might actually have the wrong file up there that doesn't have the proper loop point, though I thought we fixed it.

@TParis: We'll look into it. Supposedly we fixed that a while ago but we could have missed it, or it might happen inconsistently so it works for one player but not for another. Either way we'll make a note and try to fix.

1) The soundtrack should be bundled for free with your Steam purchase. If this isn't working yet, I'll talk to the steam techs about it.

2) We don't have any unlockables tied to achievements, but we do have mod support ready right now, supporting everything from minor balance tweaks to total conversions.

3) You'd have to ask james about story stuff.

For future updates, it depends on how well the game does and what we can afford! For now, bug fixes, etc, and I've got some ideas for a DLC expansion we *might* do.

@Xelly: I don't *believe* so. If you want to change resolutions and have the game in windowed mode, the only real way to do that is use your operating system display settings to manually change the resolution.

The plague colony concept actually came from one of Rudyard Kipling's short stories, The Strange Ride of Morrowbie Jukes. I read it when I was 11 or 12 and the idea of a naturally shaped prison full of people that had "died" but recovered has stuck with me ever since. There's this very strong sense of a plague society that inspired some of the details in the Pit. (For instance, the fact that there are no horses. One of the first things that happens to Morrowbie is that his horse is killed and eaten - although he gets a share of the meat, so it's not all bad.)

Beyond that, a lot of the cultural flavor came from Byzantine historical records. A lot of the Selini culture is based on the writings of the early desert fathers.

And just to round out my history lit nerdom, a HUGE insperation was Anglo-Saxon literature. I had just taken an Old English course when I started working on Defender's Quest and the language and culture were a gigantic inspiration for almost everything. The very pensive, elegiac tone seemed perfect for our kind of Medieval post-apocalypse setting. I highly recommend checking out The Ruin, if your at all interested in that sort of thing, it's short and really encapsulates the kind of memento mori vibe of Anglo-Saxon literature.

Of course, there's a ton of stuff beyond that, but those three were probably the biggest influence on the setting. Well, those and a healthy dose of my favorite humor writers.

Will I still get a Steam key if I buy the game from directly your website or is it just an extra for the players who have already bought there?

Edit: Is there any DRM involved when getting the game from your website?
