PlanetSide 2 isn't Windows 8 compatible?
This game ran flawlessly when I had Windows 7 installed, but once I upgraded to Windows 8 it crashes when you hit play from the PlanetSide 2 update screen on desktop.

Make sure you don't have any controllers or joysticks plugged in.

Yeah, I understand Zuku, it's the only game that isn't compatible for me though :( the rest run flawlessly.

Busta, I'll try that out since I do have an xbox controller plugged in for Skyrim.

HA! It works! It definitely is the controller that prevents it from starting!

I got Win 7 64-bit without any controllers plugged in, still crashing at start up.

Why are people using Windows 8 on non-touch devices? That's the real question.

It's not the controller itself that is the problem. Planetside 2 doesn't work with Windows 8's controller-related DLL that is called DINPUT8.dll. You can download a Windows 7-version of it somewhere and put it into your planetside2-folder. It will work flawlessly afterwards.

No offense or anything but if you are a gamer then you have no business on windows 8, I love it on my laptop but would not have it on my gaming rig.

I've gotten crap from friends about Windows 8...though they've still yet to use it themselves and it's on promotion for 40 bucks at best buy when the regular price will be $200.

It still has a desktop and it still has windows explorer. It looks exactly the same when you're on desktop mode as it does in Windows 7. The only difference being there is no start button (in theory the new windows 8 boxes screen is the "start" screen). I can't even remember the last time I actually went into my "start button" taskbar to even launch a program on W7.

If you have an android phone, specifically the Samsung Galaxy line, this OS will feel like home. It's the same way how android has its standard home screen, then the "app" screen. Think of it as the main windows 8 screen being a collection of "boxes" that are in essence widgets, you have your weather/news/calendar/email etc., then you have the classic desktop which you click on the bottom left hand corner to get to. Windows 8 utilizes the four corners of the screen as shortcuts to the desktop/different desktop windows, which makes multitasking honestly effortless.

I can access my files much more quickly than I could on windows 7.

All of my steam games and origin games work with this operating system with the exception of this game not working when a controller is plugged in (skyrim with controller works fine)

To top that off, read some online benchmarks and they'll show (though negligible) an INCREASE in performance on W8 than W7!

Some of you really need to advance with technology as it comes out. There are still some people who are using Windows XP because they just don't want to upgrade and get used to new and improved features which is completely mindboggling to me.

Give it a try, and you'll love it. Trust me.

To tell you the truth I have Windows 8 on my gaming rig and I find that it has increased my performance on several games, it is actually a good OS people are just moaning because it has a different UI, UI's change what can I say...

pretty much the case, hating windows 8 for the ui is one thing but the actual os and how it performs is far above that of any other version of windows.

sorry if some of you don't like that answer because of how windows 8 looks but that's the truth of the matter.

Since installing W8 my game still runs, but they UI is messed up. In front of ALL texts in the game this can be seen: ##UI. So it can look like this: ##UI.delete character. And its all the text in the game. Some text is no longer where it should, the info about upgrades in the cert screen is all gone, only empty boxes. Sucks since I really found the game to be fun.

On Windows 8 i have the same problem; ##UI.element_name!?!
I have done a verification on the game files for PS2.
Any solution?
