The problem is, using the trade chat groups (which exist) is horrendously inefficient compared to simply advertising in the discussion forum. The groups are way harder to find and typically consist of only a few players (TF2 trading groups aside, but I don't think I have to point out why advertising in those would be no better than here ^^).
If I had posted my trade request in one of the all-purpose trade groups, I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have gotten any kind of response.
I agree with you the advertising shouldn't clutter up the discussion space meant for discussions, but there really should be a proper place to do these trades...

Yeah, I just read the discussion rules again, it's actually against the rules to advertise - so you're not only right by principle, but by the very rules of this forum.
The problem of supply, demand and a platform for them persists though...
