Anyway to stabalize a sniper?
Title is the question. Sniping is pretty fun but pretty hard to hit anyone in one shot from a distance with the up and down motion of the scope. Is there a way to stabalize it when scoped? Or do I just need to get better at sniping? Lol.

Keybindings menu says hold breath is shift keys.
I'm quite sure that it is binded to whatever your sprint keys may be binded to (Default: L-Shift/R-Shift) But I am positive shift works on default keybindings.

Alright thanks alot all!
If you're willing to upgrade, there are several gaming mouses that feature a so called "Sniper" button. Let's say you play normally with a DPI of 2400 and that makes it really hard to snipe when using the scope and zooming in and all, even harder to stabilize.

The sniper button, while holding it down, reduces your dpi to your own choice, let's say 800 for example. Then you can move the mouse at a perfect rate for the scope, ever since I got a mouse like this I have hardly been using the whole stabilize/hold breath function because through small mouse movements I am able to stabilize the aim perfectly well without running out of air as you do with hold breath.

And the best part is you can stop holding the sniper button and the dpi on your mouse will go back to your previous default. So you just hold those two buttons together with the scope button and you'll be firing accurately both inside and outside scope.

There are mouses which the sniper function can be programmed too while others feature a pre-programmed button for that already. The choice is entirely up to you. It's such a nice function I sometimes believe it should be considered a cheat, since it gives you an real advantage whenever sniping or just using your cross-hair.
Oh awesome, that sounds very useful. At the moment I am using a $30 dollar wireless Logitech M185 mouse, which isn't intended for gaming at all. That certainly could be part of the problem, as I have had difficulty trying to get a precise shot using various weapons.
Is more cause like most games the developers think snipers, those trained in the firing of these weapons, are incapible of holding thier own weapon. Hence why your aim swings around wildly. The average sniper has toothpicks for arms and is incapible of holding thier trained equipment steady EXCEPT when taking a really big breath :P

I suppose it does add a bit more skill to things rather than just point and headshot all the time just seems grossly unrealistic that a trained soldier who specializes in one shot-one kill cannot maintain a steady bead on anything. Bad enough you have to compensate for bullet drop off but noodle arm syndrome as well?

Though as another mentions, likely some of the upgraded rifles might have better 'steady' sighting and its only the default rifle that swings around worse than a hammock in a hurricane :P

Well thank god this is no Counterstrike, else people would probably draw dots on their computer screens just to get that another slight edge.
Sorry to be way off topic but I have to put in my personal knowledge. The sway in sniper scopes is caused by breathing. The military trains us to squeeze the trigger at the end of an exhail to provide an accurate and same shot group. My personally owned sniper rifle weighs about 20 LBS and in no way am I going to be accurate shooting it without a bipod or stand.

Or just enable the ingame crosshair ;)

And I was right, upgraded to the basic 100 cert sidegrade rifle last night and the accuracy is 100x better. When you look at the weapon loadout screen you can highlight you weapons and see thier rating. Default TR sniper rifle has an accuracy of like 1 out of twenty...its damage isn't much better....it's only plus is that it holds multiple bullets before reloading.

100 cert upgrade drastically improved accuracy and damage...but only is bolt action so have to reload between shots. Still better than the scope swinging wildly all over the place and was getting headshots far more consistently.

Don't use a wireless mouse for first person shooters, the latency will really gimp you. Go for something like a Logitech G500, it has adjustable DPI settings so you can lower your DPI for sniping.
Yeah I am probably going to buy the G500 at some point, been looking at it for a little while.
nah go for the Cyborg R.A.T. 7 Gaming Mouse 5600dpi.this thing has everything you need for ps2. plus it looks cool cool, reminds me of a stealth fighter. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyborg-R-A-T-Gaming-Mouse-5600dpi/dp/B004255OUU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1355115950&sr=8-5
I'm sure anything will be better than what I have now haha.

I don't think you have handled a significantly large/heavy weapon. I got to shoot the F88 Austeyr a while back and while I'm not a trained soldier, that thing (and similarly weighted rifles) is actually hard to hold steady for long periods of time. Think of the "hold breath" as steadying the rifle whereas normally you have it more relaxed during target acquisition, as I would imagine a high calibre sniper rifle would weigh even more.

PS: ammo is heaavy
