Vanguard: Saga of Heroes F2P

Came back after a hiatus, really enjoying it.
Sure, there could be more people -- but the community here is great, the stories are the best of any MMO, and the mechanics are fun!

I just started playing approximately two weeks ago, and I enjoy it as well.

What mechanics are you talking about?

From what I remember way back in the day the combat was 100% generic and standard for any old MMO. nothing new like the active dodge introduced TERA and Guild Wars style games for one example.

The only mechanic I remember being different about this game was the diplomacy thing which is really just a twisted card game. Play one card or another and try and get the right combination to get enough points and "win"

Woohoo a clueless diplomatic ! If you want a kids game go play WoW, its easy to play, no strategy needed.

Right, because we saw that simply adding "dodging" in an MMO made it completely awesome and the best thing since WoW. (False.)

Tizmah -- I think some historical perspective is good here. When Vanguard was released, WoW's combat was much, much simpler. The idea of chained attacks with visual cues, etc. hadn't made it to Azeroth yet. Most classes had pretty generic "press 1, then 2, then 3, then back to 1" rotations. Warlocks, which had soul shards as a resource (which was kinda interesting), spent about a year with a rotation that was literally "press 1, press 1, press 1, press 1."

All that to say, yeah -- it's nothing special compared to WoW now, but that wasn't the case when they were both released.

I also started playing it, and from the little i tried so far, the game is pretty neat... The world is better than in everquest 2. The spells and etc. have more variation in vanguard...

Vanguard is more like a sequel to the original everquest than everquest 2 feels like... Too bad it closes in 5 months time

I just started playing it and it seems okay so far, although all I have to compare it to really is D&D online. The only two differences I've seen so far are the lower quality graphics and a much smaller number of people in the world. Everything else seems very similar.
