Vanguard: Saga of Heroes F2P

How in the name of all thats holy do you find your way around in this game??
I just spent 2 hours looking for 1 NPC to hand in a work order too! 2 HOURS!

I have Infomap advanced, and frankly its useless. At least in EQ2 you could type in the name of a place/npc and find them!

Sorry to be ranty, but honestly, how do you find people in this game?

Example:

The tradeskill quest I was on (VERY confusing) but eventually I did it. Then (and this was days after taking it) I had to find the NPC who gave it to me initially! The quest didnt even tell me where in the world he was! There was no track button, and no clue in the quest description as to where to find him!

2 hours searching, for 1000 tradeskill XP...

I am a massive fan of old-school gaming, but seriously, this is like going back to the days of EQ1 before it had maps!

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the maps in this game are borderline useless for finding quest objectives and NPCs. My advice is ask other players in general chat, ask your guild, etc. Either that or brace yourself for a lot of searching. Many times I recommend doing a loc for various quest givers because its common to not be guided back to the quest giver after completion.

There is comand to find NPC in this game/

There are websites like silkyvenom and thetelonproject that can give you the /loc of NPCs. Also there is a point of interest tab in the quest section which can sometimes be useful.

I hope the devs read your post OP.
What you mention is exactly the main problem with the game and the main cause of "i quit".
Instead of addressing this elementary simple issue, they eliminate good starting zones, work on streamlining the questlines so players get sent from one point to another more efficiently, but to my knowledge they are not addressing this essential issue.
Also the lack of maps in places like New Targonor and Ahgram....i personally witnessed several rage quits in new targonor over the lack of a map and how confusing the place is.
Thats what they should have been working on instead of disabling interesting and story-rich starting points for each race.

Thanks for the support Kaay... It's been interesting to learn more about Vanguard as I have played (I am still playing btw - because Vanguard despite its problems is a REAL mmo... the others that came after Everquest and Vanguard are 'games' and dont play like these old MMO's.)

Sometimes I wish people could get their heads out of their butts about 'old school' 'clunky' not so good graphicly entertainment! Vanguard is real, difficult, and makes you work for eveything! Grouping is ESSENTIAL and once you dig deeper you find that at it's heart it really is a spectacularly fun experience, with penalty for death and a challenge level that keeps you going back and 'trying again' because you failed!

Again I feel myself getting ranty, but honestly, I havn't enjoyed an MMO properly for years! Well since Everquest 1 in fact!

HOWEVER.. The problem I initially pointed out is SO INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING, and it gets worse the more you play!

Vegentiy... It took me nearly an hour of searching to find the command you were talking about, could you not have either 1. said nothing, or 2. Said what the damn command was!??

Yet again however, its useless! The command is /targetauto <npcname>

Without the <>

And it works for 100 ingame yards! Doesnt work beyond that, which is POINTLESS!

I love this game, having a ball, but I couldnt agree more with what Kaay said! This one thing drives me mental every time I play!

I gave up on tradeskilling, because its just too damn difficult to find the NPC's you need to find! I dont have hours to do this!

Now, before someone jumps on my here and says... 'Well what do you want, a watered down version that points you everywhere like the other 'games'.. Or do you want what you seem to love so much... The difficulty!

Let me be clear... I want the game to stay EXACTLY as it is... I want to change 1 thing! I want EACH NPC to have thier location marked on the map! Thats all! And whats even more mega frustrating here, is SOME of the NPC's have exactly that! In your journal is a tick box, and if you tick it on and off a little dot appears and dissapears on your map showing you where they are! GO FIGURE!!!

Why this is not done for ALL npc's is totally completely and mind-bogglingly beyond me!

Rant off :)

Thanks for listening,

Art.

See that red thing on your map? That is called a "marker". These lead you to things.
Arterus Aug 22, 2013 @ 9:41am
For a second, consider what you have said here Machi, then go away!

Do you really think I'm THAT stupid?

VERY FEW things in Vanguard are 'marked' so shut up and stop trying to be clever by making me look stupid!

some NPC have no red marker, if you are lucky there might be a vague description of where they are. Takes a lot of patience to play this game. Has a lot of helpful old timers though so asking in chat might be helpful if you are stuck. Join the official forums too, devs need to see this kind of stuff

There is also a bug, that if you pick up a quest, and it DOES have markers to the target NPC and back.
If you log off and the next day, they selectable markers on the quest log could disappear.
Wish they fix that.
Sometimes the quest description help direct you to where abouts the the NPC is located (like city or town) and then your can use the command.

@arterus custom UI's can sometimes interfere with the compass's npc direction indicator. most time you have to turn off all other quests in the tracker and even completely log out of the game and back in to fix it, it is a known but but the major update coming "soon" has put these UI bugs on the back burner.
