how far can you go before you need to pay
realisticly, i play everquest, free gets you to about level 65, silver gets you to about 80 depending on class, and gold gets you all the way to 100, so how does this game fair in that respect and how long will it take someone who knows their crap to hit that wall?

atm the only thing you really need to pay for is item unlocks. All classes and races and levels are unlocked. In VG, you can truly be a gnomish monk since all combinations are open. Diplomacy is very underrated and is usually badmouth by those that suck at it.

from my understadning rare items are locked to pay only, are you able to go into detail about that? like i said, i play eq and know that even though everything is unlocked, you are only able to get to 65 and still be usefull on ftp and about 80 on silver, to go further than that you need gold.

item locks are really cheap, something like 0.25cents each. ofcourse with any subscription everything is unlocked. There is no tiered subscription level in VG.

I quit EQ after 10 years of subs and quit when they slapped me in the face, and rear-ended me with the free2play crap. None of hard earned gear was useable unless i payed to unlock it again. i suggest posting specific questions to the official VG forums.

with eq, you cant progress any further because of an aa limit, you hit the wall character wise far before you hit the wall gear wise.

yea and thats why I quit. Shame really, if they would have allowed grandathered items, i.e. raid and top tier quested stuff, I wuold have stay but the GM told me I was ♥♥♥♥ out of luck. Never looked back, picked up VG again at hearing it was being updated finally and stuck with it. I find it's even more immersive and challenging as both EQ's, granted the bugs and performance made it even more challenging but now even those are getting fixed.

Ohh try the diplomacy beyond the newbie area... it can get intense, and grindy, but fun.
