Vaguard: Saga of Heroes - Shutting Down on July 31st, 2014
Quoting on their website:
"Dear Vanguard players,

I'm sad to announce that on July 31, 2014 we will sunset one of our longest-running games, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. This decision was not easy -- we took much time and consideration before deciding to move forward with this plan.

But here's the deal...player population numbers have decreased making it difficult to justify the resources needed to support and update this game. This is an older game and we're experiencing more and more technical challenges to continue running and updating it in a way you deserve. Simply put, these are issues that cannot be fixed in the long term and as a player, we would be doing you a disservice and going against our company commitment to provide the best gameplay experiences. So given this information, sunsetting the game later this year is the inevitable conclusion.

Again, this is not a decision that we approached lightly or without serious thought and examination. We've grown with you and the community throughout the years and shutting down the game is certainly not ideal, but necessary regardless.

I also want to let current Vanguard members know that we will be upgrading your membership to SOE's new All Access membership. Basically under this new All Access plan, you can continue to enjoy membership benefits in Vanguard until it sunsets, only now, you’ll also have top tier access in our other membership games. It is my hope that by upgrading your membership to All Access, you’ll have an opportunity to explore our other games to see if one is a fit for you. For more info, visit the FAQ here: https://forums.station.sony.com/soe...vised-soe-all-access-program-faq.11500063040/

Vanguard has had an exceptional legacy over the last seven years and I cannot thank you enough for your commitment, support and enthusiasm through the years. We will be providing more information on the game's sunset soon. In the meantime, I will be doing an AMA on Reddit at 3 p.m. today so I encourage you to join in on the conversation with any of your questions.

If private servers can have servers up for 2-3 thousand people, I think so could SOE.
They could at least keep the game running with the few paying people it had and let everyone know it was not getting any more updates, something like that would work I think.

I am not a business manager, but it sucks when all they see is profits instead of player satisfaction. I dont mean they should lose money, but I am sure it was enough to make it even...

I wouldnt support that game ever. Braid was a soldout when he backstabed the devs in VG and sold it to SOE, the decay of VG is due to that soldout!

Obviously you have no idea how MMO's work, VG was setup to fail from the beginning. The lack of support, lack of customer service, lack of updates, and other factors should be taken into account when any MMO fails So not only are you clueless about what happened to the original team that created VG, or the drama that they were all fired immediately after SOE BOUGHT Vanguard. The only reason it lasted 7 years is that it made money for SOE, SOE planned to kill the game all along, it was a personal vendetta Smed had towards Brad that dates back to when EQ was created.

So the next time you decide to troll post that a MMO failed get your facts straight first so you dont look stupid.

Vanguard remains the most beautiful and stunning of all the MMOs I've played. No one explores MMOs for the scenery anymore. Shame.

Can either this guy, or someone else, tell me whether I'm reading bs* or an accurate record of events.

It's indeed a sad day for an MMORPG that has so few like it these days. We all knew it was coming, though. A sad end to an even sadder story.

Brad McQuaid started Vanguard, was under an NDA for a long time between him and SOE. He has a new game Pantheon:rise of the Fallen > http://pjpantheon.com/ <<. He did a recent media blitz to get kickstarter going and in some recent intervies he talks about what happened to VG, find them on you tube.

If you think VG was massive, Brad intends to make Pantheon just as stunning and massive. GEt behind it while you still can.

That kickstarter will fail. Not even close to the target.
