How are new players supposed to learn to play this game?
Other co-op games (e.g. Torchlight 2, Dungeon Defenders, etc.) have varying levels of difficulty so that new players can learn to play. Even on the easiest difficulty setting in Dungeonland we get killed pretty much instantly. No idea how to progress, no idea how to improve. It is not fun to simply die non-stop. The shared life thing means you can't carry a player that isn't as good (read that to mean you can't play with your younger kids).

We're extremely disappointed in this game, it had a lot of promise but the gameplay just isn't there for casual/new players. Hopefully the devs will consider this as right now, had I tried a demo I certainly would not have bought the 4-pack, which I am stuck with now.

simple answer: Not.
its a quite hard game. i played with a friend (we both play games a lot) and his girlfriend and died 5 hours non-stop.
next day i played it online and with other players, you see how its supposed to be played and learn... but for casual-players its still to hard i think.

possible solutions for one of the next updates can be tutorials or easier difficulties to set, where you earn less money.

or they maybe totally ignore it, i dont know :)

Maybe you can set up a DM match with your friends, and have the DM go a little easier on you, and try and put you in situations where you can learn what the monsters do and the best way to beat them.

E.g. Backstab is great VS dire ducks because they have a slow recovery time after their attacks.
