Unity of Command
DLC half price today. Good idea for new player?
I bought the game a couple days ago but have not played it yet. As a new player, am I going to want the DLC early on, or is this something that should wait until I have played my way through much of the base game?

The DLC campaign appears to be slightly easier than the one from the base game, so I guess it's a good way to start. With the DLC you'll get more easy scenarios to learn the game. But definitely give the base game a try to see if you like what you see.

If you do, the DLC is a no-brainer.
I only played one scenario and bought the DLC on sale for $4.99 US...the game is slick.
Just started looking at this today. I am not experienced with war games, so I am going back and forth between the campaign scenario and the PDF manual, trying to get my mind around this.

Am I wrong to be surprised this did not come with a tutorial-style mission to acclimate new players to the interface and iconography, if not basic tactics?
Scenario/Stalingrad Campaign/Tutorial
Thanks, RangerX3X. I had thought the scenarios were only for user-created scenarios and didn't even look there, instead looking only at the campain.

Yeah, you're wrong :)
It's a very basic tutorial though and I think it doesn't even touch in depth on supply range, just mentions the button that shows you the range. It's pretty hard but yeah, the manual is quite well done so you may even consider printing it out as a quick reference.

Interestingly, the campaign is not usual like you'd expect from other strategy games, where the missions get progressively harder. It's based on real encounters during the war, so the difficulty is very unstable over the campaign and fluctuates considerably.

It's better if you play the scenarios first (the scenarios ARE the campaign missions, only not embedded in and campaign progress). There you can select easy and progress to medium ones, but don't think easy, medium and hard refer to the CPU difficulty. The CPU is a mean ♥♥♥♥♥ in any setting, the "easy" missions are simply easy due to the constellation, terrain and type/amount of units.

Well said and great advice for the new UoC player. Stepping through each scenario gives the new user a chance to see opposing forces, assess terrain, supply routes, and other important factors without the risk of losing a campaign.

I was initially frustrated with the campaign but after finding my UoC battle legs in the scenarios, the campaign is a bit easier.
