Thinkings about Berlin
So. I played a Berlin offensive scenario, and I have a one big question. HOW CAN I BREAK ENEMY'S DEFENCE? Really.
In my favourite wargame - Panzer General 2 - it was easy. Artillery rules, sometime bombers.
But here is another situation. Artillery brigades in infantry mean nothing. So festungs like Stettin, Cottbus and Berlin of cause I took after many and many casualties (how we say in Russia - trupami zakidali - don't know how it say in English).
But in never was in reality.

But it is not right, I think. "Giant fortress" Berlin was captured during a week without heavy casualties from soviet side.
As I think, it will be wisely to set one more type of brigades - assault brigade for capturing fortresses. Usually germans and lately soviets used them.
Oops!

My original reply was made at the end of a long working day and I hadn't slept the night before. I just realised what I wrote was complete nonsense. I referred to using the Tiger II step, but those are the Axis steps! I meant the Soviet IS-II step. Artillery steps are useless against city defences, but great for attacking enemy units that have not dug in. (For some reason, this scenario has the combat values of German units as particularly strong, Soviet units weak, city defences strong, and bomber strikes weak.)

You can win the game in 4–5 turns by capturing the objectives in a particular order and starving the enemy garrison at Berlin of supply.

Order of Objectives

Turn 1: Capture the southernmost city
Turn 2: Capture the supply North of Berlin
Turn 2: Capture the supply South of Berlin
Turn 4: Capture Berlin

Capturing a City

1. Attack with massed armour until the enemy is completely suppressed
2. Attack with massed infantry

Notes:
a. Do not attack a city if the projected combat results shows no suppression
b. Do not use any prestige to order units from the German High Command
c. If you want to use the IS-II step on an tank corps, reorganise infantry units with that step
